Would definitely do that from a Jets perspective, if someone wants to overpay for DeMelo they should trade him.

A first for DeMelo seems really high... unless I'm missing something

I'd rather pay a first on a meaningless armchair GM trade than have Winnipeg fans in here with pitch forks barking at me.

I just think he would be the type of player who isn't a first pair talent but could be a good fit to play with Morgan. At a cheap cap hit. There really aren't too many RD options that fit without major changes.

I wouldn't mind having him, my only concern is just that a 1st isn't easy to come by.

You are 100% accurate. He isnt a top pair D but he is a great complement for an 'offensive dman' and can turn them into top pair D. He has turned Josh Morrissey from a 4/5D making over 6M for 8 years to a legit top pair D. DeMelo is one of the most underrated dmen in the league. He elevates his partner's game, and he would do just that with Rielly. Great on the PK and is just so sound defensively at 5v5. Plus he had a breakout year offensively. There is a lot to like about DeMelo and at the deadline, the Jets could easily get a 1st for him.

There are still Winnipeg fans out there?

I just don’t see the leafs moving that 1st (we only have 3 draft picks, including this one, in 2023) unless it’s for a seriously impactful player. I like deangelo and he’d be a good compliment to Mo, but he doesn’t fit the (my) criteria so no from me

Yeah that’s fair. I did have the same thought regarding the amount of picks, I felt the need to move our 24 3rd to this years 3rd from WPG so we could have another pick in this draft.

But yes the 1st this year is one of not too many top tier draft capital we have, so it will need to be used effectively, wether that’s selecting a player or using it for something else.
