Talbot and Varlomov may both be upgrades over DeSmith, but why sign both? You'll be wasting 1.8m in cap space, or at least the penalty to bury DeSmith.

This only works if they are sure that they are going to get average goaltending from them. I don't think Varlamov will become a FA though.

This only works if both guys sign on the cheap. We've seen tandem goalies being the norm for a while now which means that most teams are looking for two goalies. Most tandem goalies sign between 2-5 Million a year. I'd have to think that Varlamov will be one of the most sought-after UFA goalies this year. Maybe 4 mill x2

I would guess Varlamov makes at least 2mil more than that. So you'll have to dump Talbot. Which honestly doesn't matter that much because Desmith is better anyways.

The UFA signings and skaters look solid overall to me though

Might not be these particular goalies, but I think this is the route that Dubas goes over trading all assets for Saros/Hellebuyck.
