Description

Kuemper is probably the best goalie to be moved in recent memory, so just doing an experiment here.

1 year of Kuemper cost Colorado:
Connor Timmins
2022 1st (pick#32)
2024 3rd (conditional. Did convey to AZ)

Timmins was a very good prospect but, had fallen off by the time of the trade due to things like injury. Still a high upside though, as he had a good enough year in 22-23 to earn a 2 year extension from Toronto

For the Timmins comp, I’m including Seamus Casey in the deal. He similarly probably isn’t a top 50 prospect at this time of the trade, but is a highly regarded prospect with good upside.

2022 first was a year later at the time. Offering a conditional 2024 pick here. Conditions depend on the Sharks trade conditions, where our 24 pick conveys to SJ if we make the ECF. If 24 conveys to SJ, WPG will receive a top 3 protected 2025 pick

There were conditions on tbe 24 pick AZ received. If Colorado won the cup 21-22, and Kuemper played on 50% of games, AZ would receive the conditional 3rd. This same conditions will be on the pick equivalent

NJ does not have an extension negotiated for this deal with WPG

Issue is hellebuyck probably comes with an extension. Which ups the value, also Kuemper isn’t the caliber of goaltender that Hellebuyck is, and had health concerns.

I would guess it heavily depends on if another trade sets the market first too. For example if Hart moves, that could totally swing things in one direction or the other. That’s where the market was for a 1 year of a great goalie in most recent memory though.

Next I can think of, top of my head is Luongo when he was moved for a goalie prospect (Markstrom) and basically a 4th liner, but that felt less appropriate given the contract situation mostly

An extension definitely ups the value, but I’m just ecperimenting from the rental side.
Could probably see something like a better prospect with a similar timeline (Gritsyuk comes to mind), and maybe making the extra pick a sure thing ‘25 2nd or the ‘23 3rd

As much as we can say it would up the value though, since there just isn’t a market for elite goaltending to go off of, it’s real tough to predict how much.

Age is also a very big factor for me here. If this was a year ago, this is a much bigger package

Add Yegor to the Hellebuyck trade.

I know Casey was a 2nd round pick but he doesn't do much for me, these smaller dmen are really a dime a dozen these days and the Jets already have a bunch of small dmen both in the lineup and in the prospect pool.

Yeah, it could depend on what else happens, but Helly is kind of in a league of his own. There's nothing close to him available. You'll also probably be out if you want to offer for only one year. Helly wants a long term extension wherever he goes so your offer needs to reflect an extended price, or it mist likely would be competitive.

I also thing the Jets will look for a more NHL ready prospects package as opposed to picks and while Casey is an RHD, which is a need, he's small and offense only, so I don't think the Jets look at him too much. A bigger need is forward, so I think the Jets would ask for Vanacek, Holtz and a 1st. Holtz being the shiny piece they can sell to the fans.
