Trades
1.
WPG
  1. Byfield, Quinton
  2. Spence, Jordan
  3. 2023 2nd round pick (LAK)
Additional Details:
Jets seemingly have some leverage here. Obviously as time goes on they lose it. Dubois can be OS on July 1, and the Jets would have to accept pretty much. I think this deal is fair both ways. Jets get a young Center back who can play top 6 minutes on the Jets, and Spence, a young D man who can play minutes on a thin WPG Blue line. A 2nd round pick also helps this deal. As of right now, Byfield is no guarantee to be a star or whatever Dubois is, but he is worth taking a chance on and has shown recently, and in the Playoffs that he can elevate his game. The Kings get a 1c/2c in Dubois, and a C core of Kopitar, Dubois, and Danault will make it extremely hard for teams like Edmonton, Vegas, and other pacific and western teams to keep up with these guys.
LAK
  1. Dubois, Pierre-Luc [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Dubois signs an 8 year contract extension with the LAK (AAV around 8.5 - 9.25M)
2.
WPG
  1. Pinto, Shane [RFA Rights]
  2. Thomson, Lassi
  3. 2025 2nd round pick (OTT)
Additional Details:
I think these are two teams that would be great trade partners. I do not know if Ottawa would be willing to take Scheifele too and give him all the money, but they sure would give it to Hellebuyck. By acquiring Hellebuyck, they have solved the long drought of mid goaltending. Ottawa does not have great D either, but Hellebuyck playing on a mediocre Jets D-core for several years has proven he can provide stellar play. Ottawa will greatly benefit from this, and their young core can have that confidence that the guy in their net will finally not be an easy battle. Going the other way, the Sens are going to have to part with 2 young talents the Sens have been developing. Pinto provides the top 6 Center upside and has some scoring touch to his game. I think he will develop nicely wherever he does play, and that is exciting for the Jets. Thompson was picked in 2019, has developed a lot slower, but partially because the OFD role in Ottawa has been clogged by guys like Chabot, Brannstrom (at one point), and now Chychrun. He will get a chance to be an OFD in Winnipeg and play top 4 minutes at some point. Sens are thin on RD, but I think the acquisition of Hellebuyck makes that less of a big worry, still something they should look to improve. I think this trade is actually beneficial equally for both sides. Ottawa needs to start buying and Jets want to retool quickly, and all these players allow their new clubs to do exactly that.
OTT
  1. Hellebuyck, Connor
  2. 2024 5th round pick (WPG)
Additional Details:
Hellebuyck Signs 8 Year x 9M Extension with Ottawa Senators. Condition on 2nd rounder (2025), is that IF Connor Hellebuyck Wins 1 Playoff Round with OTT in either 2024 (2nd 2025 --> 1st 2024) or 2025 (2nd 2025 --> 1st 2025), the 2nd becomes a 1st Rounder in the respective year.

Additional Condition: If OTT wins less than 40 games in 2024, they will receive WPG 2025 5th round Pick. If OTT wins 40 or more games 2024, OTT will receive WPG 2024 5th round pick.
3.
WPG
  1. Suzuki, Ryan
  2. 2023 1st round pick (CAR)
  3. 2024 2nd round pick (PHI)
Additional Details:
It is hard to trade for guys like Scheifele. I thought of Detroit and Boston as primary trade partners, however I do believe they are both unwilling to trade their young drafted goalies of Cossa and Swayman. That being said, it is going to be hard for the Jets to find that asset of a young goalie anywhere for Mark Scheifele. Getting a first is important here, and getting a high second for a rebuilding Flyers team is also valuable, as I am sure that is technically a first rounder. However, that pick has a condition on it which can make it a first round pick in 2024. Ryan Suzuki was picked years ago, and looks to finally crack a lineup in Carolina that was filled deep with established NHL centers. In Winnipeg, he will surely get his chance to play, and grow with the group. He will have the ability to play with Ehlers or Connor, which should help jumpstart his career. Scheifele could be the missing piece the Hurricanes have needed to get to the SCF. They have been to two ECF and being swept in both raises question marks about this teams ability to win it all. With Aho, Scheifele and KK, they can compete even more. Them being healthy is obviously a priority and a need for them to win. But another 1C in Carolina would be a big help to their chances.
CAR
  1. Scheifele, Mark
Additional Details:
Condition: PHI 2nd round pick in 2024 turns into a 1st round pick in 2024 if CAR advances to ECF in 2023-24 Season.

No cap or want by the Kings for PLD, No cap for Ottawa for even one year of Hellebuyck. Again silly extension talk to base a trade, especially an eight year deal which starts when Hellebuyck is 31 years of age. Probably a no from Carolina.

Keep dreaming. Or, more accurately, keep ignoring the reality of our cap situation, which is that the trade as constructed would put Los Angeles at the cap ceiling with 11 forwards, 5 defensemen and 1 goalie on the roster, with RFA Gabe Vilardi (and also Rasmus Kupari and Tobias Bjornot) to re-sign. So we would be about $9 million above the limit with a full 23-man roster.

Why?

1. Age. We wouldn’t extend him. Which turns him into an expensive rental, which we don’t do
2. Playing style. He doesn’t care for defense. RBA has a very high standard for defense for our centers. Not a match which would further lower our chances of extending him
3. His locker room issues

Ottawa would make the cap work or else they aren't getting better at all. They'll sign him LT 100% whether it be 6 or 7 or 8 years.

Honestly had no idea what LA's cap was. Makes sense now but why would they be reportedly interested in Dubois if they can't afford him?

I don't think that we ARE interested in DuBois. There was a report that I saw via the MSN.com news crawl a couple of days ago that suggested that Rob Blake had turned down demands for Byfield or Vilardi plus our 2024 first, but I'm not sure about how much credence to put into that rumor, either.

The cap is real. Don't think you understand what UFA means. It's the players choice, not necessarily the teams.

This is not what Ottawa needs to do. Pinto was not available for DeBrincat and Chychrun by the way. They're not going to give him up for a goalie who will start a 9.0 AAV deal for 8 years starting at 31 y/o

This move is "rebuild suicide"

Lol, are you just gonna critique me because its a players choice? Idk where hes gonna go lol, but I'm gonna make a guess. I guess this site is not for you. Because one team is gonna pay up, and whoever it is they'll have to pay. Ottawa does not have a goalie, and tbh I don't know how you reach the potential set out for your team without a very good goalie.

So who is your goalie that will get you a cup? Soggard? Malmolense or wtv his name is? You have to pay for elite guys to win. Maybe trade for Helle this year, and sign him to 6 or 5 years, but that would probably mean giving him a bigger AAV

I was responding your your comment "They'll sign him LT 100% whether it be 6 or 7 or 8 years." Really? Just because a team owns his rights at the conclusion of the his last contract, doesn't mean they have exclusive rights to sign that player.

Adin Hill? Cam Ward? Chris Osgood? Antti Niemi? Darcy Kuemper? Jordan Binnington?

Mads Sogaard has enormous potential. The other high end goalie prospect is Leevi Merilainen who has pretty good potential too

Anton Forsberg in 2021-22 was easily a top-10 goalie, the guy is pretty capable. The problem has been the team defense in front of the goalies as well as the coaching staff and their poor hockey systems

I would sign a UFA goalie to solidify the goalie tandem

Getting an expensive goalie would be a pretty bad idea for Ottawa. It would mean that you'd have to choose between Sanderson and Pinto + Greig, which would hurt the team's depth tremendously
