by need he’s a great fit, puckmover who can run a power play, and he’s only got a year left. he was a cap dump basically last year i guess but the oilers also have a terrible cap situation. i can’t get a read on his value. preds fans, what do you think?

Barrie is not a good fit, Isles already have Dobson a PP QB who is weak defensively.

How do you know? Dobson can get some experience on the 2nd unit. Barrie was PP QB of the #1 PP in the NHL, sure they had McDavid and Drasaitl, but he's gonna bring some knowledge to help you guys out.

he’s not great defensively but i think if they use him properly, he fills our biggest need at a pretty reasonable cost. having a guy who can actually enter the zone and run a good power play on the third pair would be good for us

Dobson had 19 PP points last year on a bad PP which has now added Horvat to be better. Barrie had 28 PP points while playing with McDavid and Draisaitl. Dobson would put up that many points too if he had those players around him.

Barrie would not move Dobson to PP2, and would be another weak defensive RD with Dobson. He is not a fit.

barrie also got traded midseason so the comparison isn’t really fair, not sure whether that number is total (which would include his time on the preds’ PP2 behind josi) or just for the 60 games he played in edmonton but either way it’s a better number than dobson. if you have another idea for a good puckmoving RD we can either sign or trade for at low cost, please let me know. gryzcelyk is someone i’d be interested in but he’s an LD which wouldn’t be ideal.

I think the RD/LD balance is overrated if the player is capable of playing his offside. Mayfield is still the top choice, if he prices himself out then Demelo or Peeke could be options.

mayfield doesn’t move the needle for me, he’s serviceable but he’s going to get overpaid and he doesn’t have the traits we need (the ability to move the puck and run a power play). ghost is someone i’d be interested in as well.
