AZ might be the last team willing to take Goodrow. They don't have the cash to be paying $5M+ in salary, for a ~$3.6M cap hit, for a player that provides ~$2M of services.

Cap issues are real as are M NTC, NTC, and MMCs. No way Goodrow waives to the worse franchise in pro sports in North America

They might ultimately decide to take him, but they would definitely want to be paid for the privilege for exactly the reasons you said. They are definitely not giving up assets to take him on.

Chicago has tons of cash. Rangers should pay them to take him.

CHI has more cash than AZ yes. They also did sell a ton of season tickets for winning the Bedard sweepstakes, BUT they don't throw away money like people think. The Wirtz family does have some real estate holdings and makes some cash elsewhere, but the Hawks are their business. It's not like a giant conglomerate worth multi-billions owns the team. It's a family business.

Hawks are one of the perennially top five revenue teams in the league. Dollar Bill is long gone. I understand they aren't looking to throw away money, but they should be willing to eat cash contracts for assets in their situation. Arizona is punching pennies. Hopefully to save money towards improving the team or picking up assets (or an arena haha).
Giving up picks to add Goodrow seems completely anathema to their MO.

Same as all the deals that have them eating Murray's salary or Brodie or any number of guys that are upside down on their salary/cap hit.

Very true. Good Ole Dollar Bill. The funny part is...what he tried back then is now common practice. Amazon buying NFL games. Cubs with Marquee. Big Ten Network.

Nobody knows what is in Goodrow's NTC. Does he base it solely on team with cap space that he does not want to play for, or could other factors, city, weather, etc play a role. Further, this trade is likely a pit stop as he is a prime candidate to get dealt at next year's trade deadline and remember TB traded a 1st round pick to San Jose for him. If Arizona picks up half the cap hit they could turn him into a 1st and/or solid prospects if he is having a good season for a team going for it all. These reasons, and since Goodrow helps Arizona hit the cap floor, is why I did not throw in other assets to facilitate the trade. That said, maybe a B prospect or draft pick goes the other way, or a similar deal needs be worked out with another team. Simply put, as long as Panarin remains a Ranger, Goodrow must be traded this offseason to fill out the roster.

Considering Az just bought out nemeth, they're likely looking to be competitive. You dont spend money on a player you're not playing unless you're looking to be competitive.
They may have realized theyve tanked too long and need to make a big push with their crop of talented kids, and want someone like goodrow to help them make that push. Goodrow also has a higher cap hit than salary for the next few years so cash isnt an issue for him either.
I dont think he gets that return, but he's also not going to need any assets attached. The rangers can buy him out.
