Description

Still plenty of cap space left. 11 million dropping off the books next season in Henrique and Silfverberg.

Season after this Lundy drops back to 3C, behind Zegras and McTavish, Fantilli comes in to start on the wing, switches out C with Zegras when ready. Need to take a swing for a top 6 RW next off-season unless Pulljujarvi comes back to life.

I think with Cronin as the head coach, reclamation projects like Pulljujarvi make sense. There's minimal risk but the payoff could be huge if it works.

Not committed to Shattenkirk, could be Rutta or someone we bring jn from outside for cheap, but the locker room loves shattenkirk and a certain amount of continuity is important.

There will be people trying to tell you Matt Dumba isn’t good defensively…ignore them! He’s very good defensively!

With the free agent pool so shallow someone offers dumba and graves better deals I think. I mean if severson gets 6+ I'd expect these too to get paid a bunch.

I've seen his defensive metrics improve year on year. I don't think anyone argues he is worth the 6 million he was making, and I think 5 is an overpay, but he seems to have the qualities that Verbeek craves. He's great in the room, plays with snarl, will throw the big hits, will stand up for his team mates, etc. So long as he can keep eating the minutes I think he is the right add.

I can see the argument on Graves getting a bit richer deal, but I think if teams had been willing to acquire Dumba with a 6 million cap hit, he would have moved at the TDL.

I get it but signing him to term is a bit different than trading for a pending ufa

I could potentially see signing two defenseman to a five year contract being an issue in the future when the Ducklings are ready to come up and play. Do you think we need Dumba and Graves? Do you prefer one over the other?

The clear and present need is a top 4 RHD, so it would be Dumba. Graves would make a nice long term partner for Drysdale, but I've heard Mintyukovs defensive game has improved significantly this season, so maybe a short term guy like a Reilly or Forbort or Kulikov for a year or two is the smarter play.

I'd be happy to bring Kulikov back for 2 years, be Drysdale's partner for a little bit, and we can then bust him down to third pair or 7th as needed.
