Dubas just said today at 1pm EST that he isn’t interested in trading the 14th overall pick. He also said he’s not interested in trading young assets unless it’s for a big name young asset signed longer term. So I doubt Dubas is interested in trading for anyone from Calgary

Hanifin is one I would understand him targeting. He is a quality 2D that Joseph might never be.

To dump Granlund, move an expendable POJ and add a 26 year old D man who could play anywhere in the top 4? Hanifin is a big name that has a decade of playing time left in the league.

If Hanifin comes with an extension then maybe. But not as a pending UFA that they can’t afford or is too high price on the next contract.

That's fair, and it was my intention to include that. Oversight on my part. Hanifin likely extends around 8x6M, of all the guys looking to be moved I would like him in Calgary more than the rest of them.

BOS declines. They don't need wingers, they need centres

Obviously Dubas wouldn't be interested if Hanifin weren't being extended. And if Hanifin is deadset on hitting UFA, no team is offering a good package.

Backlund is a great 3C, but BOS will be looking for top6 centres. Lindholm would more likely be on their radar than Backlund in my opinion.

When should the Penguins give up on Joseph? Joseph completed his first full season with Pittsburgh.

This year. They either need to play him or trade him. Same with Smith. Hanifin isn't much older than Joseph at this point.

Should the Penguins have played Joseph more during the 2021-2022 season? I think underutilizing him created issues with his development on the NHL level.

Joseph should start the season for Pittsburgh. If he takes a significant step forward with his play, he is tended a contract in 2024. If he falters, the Penguins can find ways to worry about one less pending restricted free agent.

He certainly deserved more playing time than Dumoulin.

Dumoulin should have left before or during the 2021-2022 season. He finally gets to leave this offseason. Cap space is better used on better players.
