TOR
  1. Hanifin, Noah
  2. 2023 7th round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
Hanifin is the better player right now but Lilly is good young top 4 dman with upside, more affordable and controllable as an upcoming RFA. Doubtful the Flames will get a better young player in return.

This is how you see Dubas’ bad management skills. His core four are based off top 10 first rounders, Marner was luck when Phoenix passed on him and he was in the same year as McDavid and Eichel so they got a great player in a fully loaded draft year. Matthews they got from first overall as a franchise player…

Dubas made a mess in Toronto giving up their future and not thinking things through. He failed as an agent, as a GM and now we’ll see how he messes up Pittsburg.. poor them…

I hope they can clean his mess up. I do hope for the best in Toronto.. Habs are rebuilding, so why not hope for a Canadian team to win just to crap on Bettman..

Dubas didn’t draft Marner, Hunter did. There was plenty of talk in the media that Toronto should trade up and draft the big center Strome. Apparently the price for moving up was too high. But if you listened to Hunter prior to the draft he constantly talked about Marner, who played in London, the junior team he owned. He talked about how Marner did what he did at every level he played and he would do it in the NHL. Hunter would then say, “that Barzal kid is pretty good too.”

Habs are in good hands now, but the mess Bergevin left is massive. But sometimes all you need to do is get the ship pointed in the right direction and things happen quickly.

Sadly, Bettman does not care about Canada one bit. He doesn’t understand how the passion in Canada for the game can be infectious if you let it. He’s too busy worrying about Arizona.

You think a guy who has 1 year left and will not resign is worth more than a 24 year-old RHD making 1.4 million that is already a top 4 defender? Please name the better young player that Calgary will aquire. Of course they could get some picks…a first and maybe a 3rd but how is that going to help a team that needs NHL players right now?

They won’t need NHL players right now if the are forced into a rebuild. If u are adding a pick on the flames side you are saying that Liljegren is currently better than Hanifin, will Liljegren be better than Hanifin someday? Maybe but not right now. Let’s say Calgary loses Hanifin but doesn’t have to go into a rebuild, they should just trade for picks because they would still have more than enough guys pushing for top 4 spots. Would Liljegren be nice to have? Sure but they aren’t paying for him.

Good roster but there’s literally no reason to trade Lilly in that Hanifin trade. Rather trade picks and prospects, which would be preferential for the Flames as well.

If Calgary accepts picks then for sure. I thought they would want a roster player in return. They don’t seem to be rebuilding but maybe I’m wrong.
