Description
This scenario assumes the Habs have a reasonably quiet offseason. Moving Edmundson and buying out Armia to free up a roster spots are the only transactions completed prior to opening day, while the other two trades are assumed to be happening towards the trade deadline. The teams I have Monahan and Hoffman going to are less important than the rough value I think the Habs could get in return for their rental.

I'm also assuming that Monahan stays healthy, and that Hoffman goes to a team that could slot him into his preferred place on the powerplay, which Montreal currently cannot.

Why would any team trade anything for Mike Hoffman? I can assure you the Capitals do not want or need his contract and salary.

Namestnikov fetched a fourth last year with a cap hit higher than Hoffman with 50% retention. He also had 8 goals and 25 points in 77 games to Hoffman's 14 goals and 34 points in 64 games.

And if you had read the description, you'd realize that I wasn't so much concerned with the specific trade partner as I was the rough value of the return.

With 15M$ in cap space, it makes no sense to buyout Armia and be penalized on the cap for four years. Especially years 3 and 4 when it will be expected for the Habs to be competitive.
Just send Beck to junior (not ready), put Dvorak at 3C and Armia plays on the fourth line.

Cause this is Reality and not a vote for Class President lol
Teams will trade for anyone at the TDL on a gamble
I mean Dadanov FFS . . .
Im just saying a 4th was the cost of RS last TDL so Hoffman really isnt being paid that much

Besides what his wife did may have soured the world on him when it comes to Media Platforms.
But he's always signed and not to league minimums for a reason
GM's arent unprofessional and close minded nor do they participate in Social Media Lynch Mobs

Sure, sure buddy. The world is conspiring against Hoffman. The Capitals still have no need for him and aren’t going to trade for him and I doubt any other teams will either.

Ehh buying out Armia frees up a spot to fit a youngster in which is valuable in and of itself, and years 3 and 4 should be with an extended cap anyway.

I agree that Beck should be in the juniors for most of the year, but I'd expect he'd get a taste of the NHL if the Habs move Monahan at the TDL.

I think here’s no need to rush kids in the NHL this year so Farrell and Beck would be better suited for Laval and juniors respectively. With those moves, Armia becomes a non-issue and if he can regain some form, he could end up being traded for an asset (although I highly doubt he would). Or you can always buy him out next year and reduce the long term effect of buying him out now.

All this to say I think buying out Armia this year is not a good way to manage the cap space for Hughes

Nope, never said that
It would work to your advantage to be manipulative though since its you im specifically slamming.
As i stated above People like you on these site's care more then the GM's who keep signing him to term and not at league minimums.
Most of the fans on this site disagree with all the trades made before this week overvaluing them all without exception.
Even the most Realistic fans overvalued Johansen and PLD among multiple others as this site rage's against Facts and Historical Context.
The Moderators used to correct people who were willfully ignorant but have stopped ever since the pandemic.

There's Fact
Then there's Fiction
Until he stops getting re-signed in the NHL
Your version and outlook on his life is Moot as you cannot prove it

You keep talking about signing Hoffman which isn’t what’s being proposed. What’s being proposed is a team trading something of value (any Draft Pick) for Hoffman. I can assure the Capitals will not be doing that.
