Pens decline. Would use that 2024 second rounder for someone more impactful.

Geekie is the 3rd Centre you need and he fits Dubas’ plan of getting younger.

Isn't he a 4th line center?

For now but there is room to grow with a 24 year old player.

I think Dubas might look for more of a sure thing at 3C. Otherwise, might as well just put Poehling there.

As a Habs fan who wishes we had given Poehling one more season I think Geekie is ahead of him right now as far as offensive output. If you could use both of them in your bottom six in some capacity it would give you depth and youthful energy in an old team.

Penguins pass pretty easily. Not giving up a second round pick for a 4th liner

Pens aren't in a wait for him to grow mode. They need an established 3rd line center. Not paying that much for a 4th line center who might be able to make the jump.

I can't see Francis dealing for Karlsson. Even at $8.5M he is a BIG risk for 4 seasons and Francis is very protective of his cap flexibility. And the plan is not to compete now, but to target a window from 2-3 years time when Beniers and Wright hit prime years, and Karlsson will have long aged out by then.
I think Dunn's deal will be much more than this, close to $8Mx8 is what I'm expecting, this would deal would be an absolute steal.
And we aren't investing another $5M+ in net. Grubi is the guy, they're not looking to usurp him, he had a good playoffs and we'll be fine if he can bring some of that form to next season.

You have 10 million coming off the books in Eberle and Wennberg. The only player on your roster due a big raise is Beniers. 24-25 you’d have Matty and Wright down the middle with Yanni 3C. All you’d need to do is dump Tanev, which would be easy with 1 year left.

Other than O’Reilly you’re not getting one from the UFAs.

Now he is in Boston. That was a strange decision not to qualify him and Sprong.
