Sharks have two retention slots left. One is reserved for EK65. Simek is easily buried.

It's gonna have to be another team because the blues only have like 3 mil cap space and still need to sign 1-2 more guys like toropchenko

Right, I get that, but as you can see here I didn't trade Karlsson, and the reason for that is that I don't believe any team has the cap space to accommodate him for the 2023-24 season. I believe a year from now, in 2024 and in 2024-25, with the cap increasing by 3-4 million, teams will be able to afford him...

Well that's fine, STL can be a place holder here!

Karlsson will be traded. 100% guaranteed. Even if not, Grier will keep a retention slot open for the possibility. Would be reckless not to.

Just so you know you can't put conditions on trades based on a player resigning.

what does that trade look like? If Grier's public comments are any indication, he's more likely to retain 25-30% than 50%.

Karlsson's contract ($8-ishM for 4yrs plus a NMC) and injury history suggests to me the return would be quite underwhelming:

-NHL player with a decent-to-poor contract (for balancing out the money)
-C+/B- prospect
-2nd/3rd round pick

Not even mentioning the record breaking Norris season, that didn’t happen or anything. Lol people on this site are so full of it. Consider all elements to form a reliable argument.

a 33-year old player who's missed 20% of his team's games in the last 5 years, nearly doubled his career Shot %, and would be in the top-10 of highest paid defenders even with 25% retained. He also has a NMC that he can use to limit the number of teams he will accept in a trade.

I don't know what you're expecting here.

Yeah they took that out of the last CBA I believe. So conditions on trades based on a player resigning with a team can't be added in.
