I haven't watched much of Geekie, is he like a super good defensive player or something?

From what I gather, also without watching him, he's an offensive version of Rasmussen. Big body, right shot, good at faceoffs. Had great chemistry playing junior hockey with Rasmussen also.

He really hasn't produced much offense though and is 24. He seems like a bottom 6 player who should be in a defensive roll but I haven't seen much of his play. 28 points in 69 games doesn't scream offensive player to me anyways. If he was available for cheap sure, I don't know if Kubalik isb a cheap price tag.

Seems to be a middle 6er similar to Ras. Strangely, he has decent GF/60 & xGF/60 but is primarily deployed with defensive zone starts. I think if you put some of that defensive responsibility on Ras's shoulders and deploy him more on the offensive side of the ice, you'll see that translate to more counting stats.

I don't disagree. I'm all for taking a chance on him but I think Kubalik is a bit too much to give up. Maybe a third?

Geekie is a bottom 6 Center, bottom 9 winger, part of the PK group, and prior to Tolvinene/Sprong on the 2nd PP grouping with a heavy shot (won the team hardest shot competition last year). I don't think Seattle does the trade unless they are that far off on the RFA offer solely because Geekie was one of Seattle's best FO% players last year. If they trade the rights it's probably because a center is on the way (Wright?) or that they are getting another center in return. Geekie was also their only right handed center.

The comparisons to Rasmussen are pretty spot on.

Geekie would love that contract. It's a bit generous.

Would Veleno + pick be a good trade? What pick would be good, a 3rd?

Veleno and a 3rd sound about right. Veleno probably needs a change of scenery at this point in his career.
