The offer doesn't work for a team that needs to compete now like Calgary.

Now that the 2023 draft is in the rearview mirror, it's unlikely that we'll be trading John Gibson until February, so how about we give you a 2024 third for Ty Smith?

Calgary won’t get a better offer than that. Sure, there are other teams that can offer more, but essentially getting two 1st and well….Poulin who may or may not turn into anything significant is likely the best some team would potentially offer. To get more directly to your point of competing now, Ty Smith could be instituted in there somewhere who is an NHL level player that would help them compete now, but that’s less “Hanifin would command more” and more “Hanifin would command something slightly differ than that offer.” Gnome sayin?

Look at Calgary's lineup, they signed three 29+ players long-term, and their window is now. If they move Hanafin they need a player that is ready to contribute now. If they were rebuilding, I'd totally agree with you.
