Trading Murray and Signing Domi

Description
This ACGM is a companion piece to my contemporaneously-posted Murray-Samsonov tandem construction.

Two simple moves that go far towards solving the major issues facing the current roster:

1. Acquire free-agent Max Domi. This is an improvement on the existing top-6 (Domi is clearly an upgrade on Jarnkrok) and helps the third line, too.

2. Trade Matt Murray for cap space. (The return isn't important as long as the cost doesn't include a first-round draft pick or prime prospects Fraser Minten and Topi Niemela.) I've sent him to Winnipeg here because I think that the Jets are serious about trading Connor Hellebuyck while he still has maximum value. Connor Timmins and the third are sweeteners and Logan Stanley seems to be the odd man out in Manitoba. Stanley is not waivers-exempt but should be insurance against injury to a LhD (as an alternative to the recently-signed William Lagesson). I hate to trade Timmins but I think that in this context, it is necessary.

A third move is filling what I see as a weak spot at #3RW. I don't think that Lafferty or Reaves is the answer there so in the absence of anyone I see promotable from the Marlies I've signed another inexpensive free agent. Feel free to make any substitution you think would be superior; note that there's a budget of $3 million to do so via free agency or trade.

The Jets are good on cap dumps. I don't think they're looking for any.

Honestly not sure about Domi being a clear upgrade on Jarnkrok - at least in the sense of what the Leafs need. I think he's one of the more overrated players out there. Jarnkrok outstrips Domi's 5v5 goal production over the last 3 years and doesn't trail far behind on a P/60 basis. Domi is also one of the worst defensive forwards in the league whereas Jarny is well above average.

As usual, you missed the point of why Winnipeg might be interested in Murray.

Missed the point entirely -- it has nothing whatsoever to do with cap dumps.

Since when does Jarnkrok play center?

The whole idea here is to move Tavares to wing.

He's an all 3 fwd positions guy. Not that I'd want him playing 2C, but I wouldn't want Domi there either, so.

Regardless, my only point was to challenge the idea that Domi is a clear upgrade over Jarnkrok. Definitely more talented and has the potential to be, but I've never been a big fan of the guy. Like I said, I think he's overrated.

Hope I turn out to be wrong if they sign him.

Nice job. Only issue is Murray would have to agree to waive but nonetheless one of the better TML roster constructions I've seen here of late! You sure you're not a Leafs fan? Lol

Is it anything like how you personally told us that the Kings had no interest in PLD and wouldn't even do Kupari straight up for him?

It sounds like, as usual, you have no realistic idea of what your own team needs and wants so obviously you have no clue what any other team needs or wants. Maybe learn a little about your own favorite team first before you foray into areas where you have less than zero knowledge.

Being wrong isn't being blind homerism. I'm still convinced -- more today after I've already started to see the effects that the Dubois trade have begun to make on the Kings -- that this acquisition will go down as the worst mistake any Los Angeles GM has ever made.

In contrast, being wrong because you can't overcome your own biases long enough to see what people are trying to direct your attention to is homerism.

By the way, it would be interesting to all of us of you could provide us a link to the "time" I "personally told" everyone that I "wouldn't do Kupari straight up for" Dubois, because I don't ever recall even thinking such a thing, let alone writing it. I did say that I wouldn't trade Quinton Byfield for Dubois straight up, so maybe that's the source of your statement, because confusing Byfield for Kupari is a mistake you're quite capable of making. I assume that the error was inadvertent -- we all would hate it if you had lied about something I said.
