Description
Don Sweeney draft a centre challenge.
-Barzal has a lower cap hit because he wouldn't have had that rookie season that he did with the Isles with Boston and would have been behind Bergeron and Krejci/played wing for a while
-Krejci doesn't come back last year so raise the cap by 2M to compensate for his bonus overage.
-Undoing the Nash trade means you don't need to sign Forbort and Reilly and then have Reilly in the AHL, so remove another 2M from the overages
- Possibly they still acquire Hall and don't sign Haula so don't trade for Zacha with that draft track record
-Bridge Sway with the intent to extend him in the back half of 2023-24 when the cap is due to go up. No room for Freddie, also Jordan Kyrou or DeBrincat might have been drafted instead of him anyway.

If every GM could go back in hindsight, then remove Pastrnak, McAvoy, Swayman, etc.

Someone has never heard of the butterfly effect and 4m over the cap without a full roster. Yawn.

No Krejci on the roster last year means no bonus overage for him. No Reilly in Providence means you can fit Bergeron's bonus in 2022-23 cap space. Or maybe he even retires last summer if they have other C's.

You assume everything else plays out the same. The minute you change 1 pick in 2015 you alter everything that happens after that. You don’t get MacAvoy in ‘16 and so on and so on. You don’t just alter Boston, you alter the entire league, the standings, the drafts, free agency, trades.

Drafting a player who spent 2015-2016 in junior instead of a worse player who spent 2015-16 in junior would have zero difference in getting McAvoy.
