ngl as a leafs fan it’d be interesting to acquire a guy like dvorak to play 2C. Must say tho, Anderson is useless for us. overpaid for how he performs.

Newhook ain't ready to be a 2C on any team in the NHL. Put him at the wing and let him get his feet going a bit. Not sure he slots well with those linemates either. He needs at least one guy who can find him in the slot, and Hoffman is more of a finisher. Newhook is not going to be the set-up man for any line at this point in his career.

Delete it quick before the hoards of angry TML fans show up
Also Matheson , Dach ,Slafkovsky among others havent been cleared for play
Monahan was just cleared a few weeks ago but the rest are still injured.

Matheson Lower Body again which has been a trend since he joined PIT and continues in MTL.
Im convinced if he just sat out and rehabbed properly he'd heal but he never seems to do that.
So its an Endless Cycle where he starts and ends his seasons Injured

Dvorak hasn't even hit 40 points in his career yet, man is barely a 3c. Don't let Hab fans brainwash you into thinking he is good

to be fair, the guy also has never played on a decent offensive team. i think he’d be alright in Toronto. he’s got a reasonable cap hit too.

Neither was Dach until he got here.
Held down top RW until injuries then 2nd C after Monahan went down.
With the proper support on Wings he can do it.
Without that support though i agree its unwise to put him top 6 C.

Coach Nicholas our Skills Coach has improved our development yield big time.
Hutson gives him a lot of credit for his Virtual Coaching helping him work out his Entry's and Positional Play.(Hutson interview from after his NCAA season he said that)
Most of our Youth this year thanks Coach Nicholas and no others from MTL's development organization which tells me its founded given the result many of them got overachieving .

We didnt give up 31st and 37th cause we had no faith
Same as we didnt give up 13th OA for Dach cause of no faith
We paid high prices cause we've seen the impact our new Development staff has had on our young players
We think that trends likely to continue.

Besides Newhooks about where Suzuki was after year 2 in the NHL faceoff wise
Offensively they're about 10 pt average apart but Faceoff wise he's as likely to grow here under Coach Nicholas as Suzuki was

How many 40+ point Centers you know in the NHL?
That would be like 15-20% of the league at best
Most 3rd line Centers arent 40 point players as 3rd line is traditionally the Defensive Checking Line

He played a lot with dadanov and gallagher. That ain't bad teamates. 4.75mil is way to risky when there are much better options out there

weak argument.

Dadanov and Gallagher r well past their primes. he could be playing with Matthews and Marner.

I REALLY hope it does work with Newhook. Not trying to call him terrible, just saying what didn't work here in CO. The Center position was VERY overwhelming for him and he had his best moments playing on the wing. Faceoffs aren't his problem, he actually does those pretty well. Its positioning and defensive responsibilities. Granted, we are in our cup window and don't have the patience needed for a guy like him, but he did not look nearly as good as Chicago Dach last year.

His cap hit isn’t reasonable. He’s a way overpaid, mediocre 3rd liner who sucks defensively

But Newhook destroyed all Docks numbers his first 3 years in CHI before he was traded
Newhook in his rookie season out produced Dach's first two seasons and head to head 2 seasons vs 3 its 59 points Dach to Newhooks 66
Also Newhook beat him in Goals with 27 to Dach's 19.

I dont think you actually looked at how bad Dach was struggling in CHI.
It sometimes happens but Dach finished the year successful with 6 more points then Newhooks career high

Im pumped to have them both.
Newhook was my guy before Caufield dropped into our laps outta no where.
His numbers are good at all levels there's just doubt that he'll get past where he is as he's a shooter not a playmaker(not creative enough)
He's a Shoot ,Shoot and if that fails Shoot some more type Forward like Anderson who relies on his speed to create Rushes.
That basically describes MTL's system where guys like Byron made a name for themselves based on those skills alone cause they dominated on PK.
Well ironically enough Newhook thrives everywhere else but has basically had 5 games worth of shifts in his time in COL according to Hockey Reference.
This is where we'll build him up and help him reach that next level

Im really impressed with what you guys built up though
When we get players like Dach or even Suzuki there's usually wait time and an investment required.
This time with Newhook its just fine funing and letting him gain experience so he can improve.
Very little has to be done outside working on his faceoffs and either committing to BS or Forechecking cause on MTL if you do neither like Gurianov learned , you're let go
