Nylander To Washington

Created by: KingExLeafs
Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 3, 2023
Published: Jul. 3, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is the only return I want from Washington if Tom Wilson is untouchable in a Nylander trade.

As far as trade destinations go for Nylander, I assume Washington would be near the top of the list because of his friendship with Sandin, and the fact that Washington could use another elite winger on their power play.

I don't want the Leafs to lose him for nothing. That's bad asset management. Treliving learned the hard way in Calgary why that always ends up badly for the team.

With him on team chances of winning up are higher ain’t that bad asset management if anything throw money at another player in free agency next year

The funny thing in this whole situation, is that if TOR doesn’t give Nylander what he wants, he could make their lives pretty difficult by refusing to sign any extensions with potential trade partners and declare he’s going to free agency 100%. In that scenario, TORs return on a Nylander trade is effectively cut in half lol

We’re not losing Nylander unless he has a a strong desire to play elsewhere regardless of money. The extra year we can offer him, plus front-loading the contract on SBs, allows us to match any contract that he’s offered on the market, but at a lower cap hit. A deal will get done.

That's a possibility. But I think Treliving has done his homework and knows what 1 year of Nylander is worth to other contenders. And if Nylander goes that route, then he'll just keep Nylander for the rest of the year. In that scenario that would be the best option.

Don’t worry - the leafs wouldn’t get nearly this type of return so that should make it easier.

You expect a young top 4 LHD, a 4C on a great contract, a top 10 pick in the most recent draft, and another first round pick for Nylander? Leafs fans are going to be incredibly disappointed with the actual return for him…

A 4c on a great contract lol, he was a throw in to make the cap work for Washington. As for the 1st, that's bare minimum. The only valuable pieces in this trade are Leonard, who might not even see NHL ice for two more years, and a decent top 4 shutdown guy. That's not a lot for one of the premier goal scorers and playmakers in the league. Nylander is demanding 10 million because he deserves it. Ovi will beat Gretzky's goal record a lot faster by playing with a guy like him.

The caps wouldn’t even trade you Leonard for Nylander straight up. This trade isn’t close, I cannot stress how far off it is.

That's very likely. Other than Wilson and Leonard Washington doesn't have anything valuable to give in a trade for Nylander so he's not going to get traded there.

Well that’s also completely incorrect but yeah sure. He’s not getting traded to Washington if this was the price, which no team would pay for one year of Nylander.
