I highly doubt Dubas is in the business of retaining money. He’d surely rather just pay the price to move Granlund’s contract in its entirety.

Man I’m so torn on Granlund, I want to keep him for the price we payed for him and at least give him a shot with a full training camp and what have you but then the part of me that says we don’t have time to wait around for that and tread the waters of its gonna work or not, so you deal him out. Regardless, as of this moment in time we are over the cap and there certainly without a doubt HAS to and WILL BE a move made to clear cap, it’s just a matter of who and where atp.

I feel bad for the guy. Hextall set him up for disaster by thrusting him into last year’s putrid bottom 6 and expecting him to be the savior. He had a very slim chance of excelling.
Though he is a bad fit for the Pens in terms of play style and cap hit, the man had 41 points last year and 64 points the year prior.

With that being said, I do think we have no choice but to move him out, especially if Karlsson is coming in. However, people have gotten delusional on this website in regard to what they expect us to give to move him. I’ve even had a Hawks fan try to claim to me that it will cost us two 2nds and Ty Smith to move Granlund LMAO. Completely ridiculous.

Nah yea from the minute I saw the trade roll in that night I immediately thought it was the wrong move. Granlund just doesn’t really play Penguins hockey and I never really understood that move, I think it was a desperate one and a panic mode move.

As for the cost to move him, I can’t see it being more than a second rounder especially being that next year is his expiring year. No WAY Dubas pays 2 seconds. And to be honest even if we do acquire EK I don’t think that necessarily means Granlund is on his way out. We’ll see.

Garland is not a fit in Columbus. Too expensive for a 3rd liner and the Jackets need a center or a vet 3rd string goalie if anything.

Would depend on Marchenko's development. Garland still a much better player than him and Roslovic all around so he wouldn't likely be bottom 6.

Marchenko scored more goals than Garland in 22 fewer games last year and is over 4 years younger. There is absolutely zero chance they would trade for Garland to play him above Marchenko in the lineup. He would then push a player like Chinakhov out of the lineup. Garland also complicates their RFA signings over the next 3 years. They're not going to trade for him just to retain and trade him elsewhere at the deadline. They can just not trade for him to begin with and avoid that whole situation of suck.

Don't try to overcomplicate it. Look for a trade with a team that's not so close to the cap and that actually needs wingers.

CBJ has space and one flyer by Marchenko isn't proof he is better.

Space that they're going to use to improve their top 6C situation and to pay out what could be significant ELC bonuses considering they're going to have in the range of $8M of those available to be earned.

The typical argument of "that player isn't proven" to try to convince Jackets fans that the team should devalue their young players. It didn't work with Flames fans trying to argue 3 OA for Lindholm, it's certainly not gonna work with trying to dump Garland on the Jackets.

Look, you can acknowledge the reality that the Jackets are going to have nothing to do with a $5M winger, or you can keep trying to force a square peg into a round hole. I'm not gonna keep arguing with you on this since I've thoroughly explained to you why it's stupid.
