Trades
1.
DET
  1. 2024 7th round pick (ANA)
ANA
  1. Määttä, Olli
Additional Details:
Maatta becomes expendable after Edvinsson cracks the roster and with the additions of Ghost and Holl. ANA is a potential fit as they have ample cap space and could use a LHD tie-over for 1-2 years until Zellwegger, Mintyukov and company are seasoned.
2.
DET
  1. Granlund, Mikael
  2. 2025 3rd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
DET has been connected to Granlund previously and still have the cap space to take on his deal for 2 years. Even after signing Compher, the flexibility of Copp and Granlund to play C and wing on the 3rd line could prove useful. Granlund has somewhat of rebound potential and can act as a tie-over until Kasper is ready in a season or two. 3rd helps offset taking on Granlunds 5,000,000 for 2 years.
PIT
  1. Zadina, Filip
Additional Details:
Zadina needs a new home and the Pens need young skill infused back into their top 9.
3.
DET
  1. DeBrincat, Alex [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
DET needs to score more and Stevie Y has cited that as the main area of improvement. Debrincat fits their core and provides exactly what they need.
OTT
  1. Perron, David
  2. Veleno, Joseph [RFA Rights]
  3. 2024 1st round pick (BOS)
  4. 2025 3rd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
OTT wants to compete for a playoff spot and will likely ask for a roster player in return. I see Perron as a fit as he is nearing UFA status and can return a little bit of the offense lost from Debrincat. Veleno is at the point where he needs to be played consistently in the top 9 or moved elsewhere. Boston's first in 2024 will be in the 20-32 range so not the biggest loss.

Would think the Pens accept.

If I had to guess, Ottawa is on Perron's 10 team no trade list.

Shocking. Detroit passes. If you want to dump Granlund then pony up. Otherwise keep him and don't get Karlsson. Also, pass on the rest.

I'd venture to say pretty confidently that ANA, CBJ, CHI, SJS, ARI, PHI, VAN, WPG are all on there. I'd also include MTL but as a frenchie you just know he'd love to play there. The last two could be up for debate, I think the promise of playing with Tkachuk and Stutzle over Compher and Fabbri would be enticing. Ottawa is slightly closer to contention than Detorit as well.

The Pens will not be acquiring EK. Is Granlund overpaid? Definitely? Did he struggle last season? Definitely. Is he still a useable NHL player that could put up 40-55 points in a good situation? Absolutely. If by "ponying up" you mean swapping the 3rd for a 2nd then sure, that can be debated. If you think a team is getting a 1st from PIT to take a still useable NHL player you're wrong. And you'd rather have Joe Veleno, Perron (who will walk in FA), pick #24-32 in 2024 and a 3rd over Debrincat? Cmon man lol.

I'm not saying he wouldn't go. He has a young family. Wasn't really happy about leaving STL but could see him chasing another ring.

Not interesting for Ottawa

Zero need for Veleno
Perron is 35 y/o and UFA to be
Late 1st + 3rd doesn't do it

I agree that OTT gets the low end of this deal in hindsight. Think it's hilarious the Red Wings fan said they'd pass on this.

The value is way more than what they paid. Yzerman isn't stupid even if other people are; they"ll either except what we offered (which is assuredly less than this) or sell him somewhere else as a rental and we'll sign him next year for free. Ottawa has no leverage. As far as Granlund goes again;you have no leverage. You don't dictate trades when you're dumping a player. LA just paid the equivalent of two 2nds to dump 6 million over two years. There's only a couple of teams left that can even take this trade so; sorry bud.

You have to be delusional to think this is way more value than Ottawa paid. 7th + 39th overall in 2022 > Perron, Veleno, late 2024 1st. And then the thirds in each deal just wash. You cannot tell me that Ottawa is getting more in this Detroit deal without showing extreme Red Wings bias lol.

I just did tell you that so I guess you're wrong. Veleno was drafted 30th in a bad draft. By just getting to the NHL he's has outplayed his draft position. We'll easily get a 2nd for Perron at the deadline. And that pick could be a lottery pick the way Boston is going; so yeah it's more. Also Detroit loves Perron and won't be giving him up except at the deadline and maybe not even then. He's been a great leader for us.

Thanks. You've just confirmed by suspicions. You have an extreme propensity to let your Red Wings coloured lenses blind you from reality! Please enjoy your elite center Joe Veleno before he signs with Orebro in the SHL in two years. Cheers to mediocrity.

Enjoy your long, slow painful descent into a 10 year rebuild. I'm already enjoying it, lol. But don't worry I'm sure uncle Gary will fix the Lottery for you again.
