Rust declines.

Disagree. He’s already won cups and has secured a long term contract. Players love Nashville and there’s no state tax so he’d actually bring more money in.

When he was a pending free agent last summer he said the only two teams he considered playing for were Pittsburgh & Detroit. He didn’t even leave Pittsburgh for his home town, I doubt he’ll leave it for Nashville.

Players say whatever all the time. John Tavares was going to retire an islander and Marian Hossa only wanted to stay in Pittsburgh too….maybe Rust was sincere but I don’t buy into any of the press stuff and like I said TN having no state tax really plays a factor to anyone.

I’m gonna go with he declines. He’s already a multi-millionaire and plays with a couple first ballot hall of famers. He’s not going to uproot his family so he can take passes from Cody Glass. Tennessee’s state tax must not matter too much as they’ve long had trouble attracting free agents.

Hawks decline. That's not enough to take 2 years of Petry. And it sounds like Hawks aren't looking to take on any more players anyway.

Personally, I wouldn't be so quick to decline here. Petry is mostly a negative asset because of his cap hit and salary. Otherwise he is still a pretty good RD. I think it's at least possible a 2nd could pay for the negative equity on his contract, in the eyes of Kyle Davidson. Plus, he would probably be a better option than Zaitsev to pair with our young LHD, and help us to the cap floor next year, so those are a couple positives. He could be a lucrative trade chip at the TDL too if he has a good year and Davidson is willing to retain.

But yeah, you are probably right. I'm just not so sure certain situations are so black and white.

Don't disagree w/ your points. But gotta believe if Petry was willing to waive for Chicago and Kyle was willing to take him for a single 2nd, Petry would be a Hawks already. Can't imagine Dubas didn't call to discuss Petry and Granny before now.

True. Dubas probably didn't want to pay that much, though. Or maybe there are character issues and Davidson didn't want to poison the well. Could even be that CHI was on his "No Trade List".

Even w/ Petry’s bad contract he is still a good right D and helps limit Letang being overused (when healthy). I don’t think Dubas moves Petry just because unless he has a sure thing coming back like Karlsson or another top flight right D.
