Guentzel LTIR Replacement
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MoSeider53</b></div><div>Guentzel is only out up to 12 weeks, Which means he's probably only out for the first Month of the season. Probably due back by Mid-November.</div></div>
It’s “at least” 12 weeks, not “only”. Also ankle injuries are common for setbacks so they should take their time brining him back

I agree with this take. Multiple players talk about loving Nashville and there is also no state tax. I’m a penguins fan and I can promise you the average person would rather live in Nashville than Pittsburgh

Second Buyout Window
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawksguy81</b></div><div>Don't disagree w/ your points. But gotta believe if Petry was willing to waive for Chicago and Kyle was willing to take him for a single 2nd, Petry would be a Hawks already. Can't imagine Dubas didn't call to discuss Petry and Granny before now.</div></div>
Even w/ Petry’s bad contract he is still a good right D and helps limit Letang being overused (when healthy). I don’t think Dubas moves Petry just because unless he has a sure thing coming back like Karlsson or another top flight right D.

Second Buyout Window

He didn’t even leave Pittsburgh for his home town, I doubt he’ll leave it for Nashville.</div></div>
Players say whatever all the time. John Tavares was going to retire an islander and Marian Hossa only wanted to stay in Pittsburgh too….maybe Rust was sincere but I don’t buy into any of the press stuff and like I said TN having no state tax really plays a factor to anyone.

Second Buyout Window

Disagree. He’s already won cups and has secured a long term contract. Players love Nashville and there’s no state tax so he’d actually bring more money in.

Instead of Karlsson
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Boltsbeathabs</b></div><div>TB isn't spending that much on a backup goalie and before you give me the "were taking Myers back" counter he's 250k against the cap and can't see TB spending more than 900k on a backup.</div></div>
I mean I get the Myers point, but even if it’s not DeSmith they need to get an actual backup for Vasy at some point. He’s getting older and the mileage is going to start taking its tool if they don’t get him down to 55-60ish starts. He’s the best goalie in the world but they all have their physical limits. Ben Bishop should be a firsthand cautionary tale for Tampa on what a quality backup means.

Hanifin would be signing for a higher AAV. As far as Severson’s term, I’m sure the penguins would offer 8 at the same AAV or lower, I just wouldn’t personally offer it for a defenseman.
With Jake I’m just banking on a slight discount due to Sid. I could realistically see him taking a slight discount to stay in Pittsburgh or go home to Minnesota if they were interested.

Younger
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Quillanrocks</b></div><div>Did you ask Crosby about the first trade??!! lol Guentzel is a heck of a player but I'm just not sure Seattle would make this move. (?) Assuming firstly that he doesn't put Seattle on his 12 team no-trade list, the bigger question is would he want to sign an extension and what would that look like. (?) Rutta has next to zero value to the Kraken over their current RD, especially at that cap hit for 2 more seasons, and the prospect does little for Seattle either, I imagine. Of course, in Pittsburgh's perspective, that is not nearly enough return for a top-line winger, especially with retention, so I can't see Dubas doing it either.</div></div>
I 100% doubt Sid would allow Guentzel to be dealt, nor do I think Dubas wants to which I said in the description. I’m just humoring the idea because I’ve seen some threads of other teams. The hard part about finding a trade partner that works for both teams is Pittsburgh will want usable young roster players now, as opposed to a top prospect for later. Seattle is a fit for that vs some other teams that an overall Guentzel trade makes sense for (Carolina or Dallas).

I don’t think Killer takes a paycut this time around given how he stacks up against the rest of the UFA pool. Someone will shell out 5M AAV at him and Tampa can’t match that.

I think it leaves defense a mess (specifically bottom pairing) and running back the goaltending shouldn’t give anyone a warm and fuzzy, but it’s definitely a start. I wouldn’t call this team a Stanley cup contender with this roster but leaves a lot of room in ‘24 offseason to improve so long as Sid, Geno, and Letang sustain their play.

I don’t see them retaining for 5 years on Rust seeing that they’ll likely need to retain on any Carter trade or a Granlund trade/buyout. The value is correct but the logic for Pittsburgh isn’t.

LA read this idea and quickly sent Peterson to Philly to avoid any unnecessary Jeff Carter-ness

I don’t think Dubas is going to move Guentzel based off his presser. He specifically mentioned him with Sid and Geno when raving about the top six, so while I don’t think it’s a terrible idea to explore moving him I just don’t see it happening.

1- Window to win now
2- Other teams have better prospects to offer
