Project draistial
It’s hard to say “overpay” for Drai as a return, but that’s giving up the farm for sure. CBJ would be better off keeping a lot of that and going for a cheaper splash like Keller or Scheifele if it has to be a center.

That’s just not a cup contending goalie tandem. Forwards group looks great but back end and goaltending leaves a lot to be desired.

I agree he’s a stud. I just don’t know how to value him vs the other guys on the market like Ullmark, Helle, or Soros. I figured he’d likely be the cheapest option out of all of those but admit I may have valued him too low.

Pens taking cap casualties
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Victor24</b></div><div>14 overall is worth more than Hall and Ullmark combined</div></div>
Okay, if that’s your evaluation and you read the bio who is a player you’re moving 14 OA for? My justification is Ullmark is likely a Vezna winner and Hall is still a top 6 option. They don’t coke free, regardless of Boston’s cap situation. I can live with the argument they’re not worth 14th OA but then who is?

Something different for fun
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Matt1567</b></div><div>Florida ain't moving Knight regardless of how Bobrovsky's been playing, even thought Guentzel is good they have plenty of good forwards and adding Guentzel doesn't help them as much as Kinght will in the long-run
I don't think Jeff Carter would be of interest to Tampa
In what universe would St. Louis move either Krug or Vrana for that package, let alone both</div></div>
I just figured for the Blues trade because they’re dumping Krug. Krug has twice the term and a larger cap hit than Granlund has. But how much they value Vrana is a fair point.

Smashville goes smash
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>qc14</b></div><div>I get the thought behind the Wilson deal and its not crazy but if the Caps were to move him I just think their would be better offers out there.
Tolvanen is what he is at this point, an ok bottom 6 winger and doesn't hold much appeal. If Johansen can keep up what he did last year, he would be a good but not great 2c behind Kuzy. That is a big if, and I think they would be better served using that cap space on a Timo Meier or Tarasenko or on re-signing Strome and someone like Provorov. Johansen's contract is still so big that I just don't see him having much value -- Pacioretty did just go for literally nothing after all. That leaves them with a first, which once again is fine, but I would assume they could do better on the open market.</div></div>
All great points. I think the real question is what would the league value Wilson as at this point as a 28 year old. He’s not old, but he’s not young anymore and the style he plays typically caps around 32-33 years old. He’s also now coming off injuries. Now, the “lowering” traits aside he’s an absolute unicorn of a player in today’s league so teams may want to throw everything and the kitchen sink at the caps for him. I do think he’ll end up being moved as Washington starts eventually heading into the rebuild/post Ovi era

Keller

I don’t think either of those two players are negative value, and Arizona literally just wants to make it to the floor. While not trying to de-value Keller, I do think he’s a little overpaid which would help facilitate a deal like this, where Chychurn is one of the best value contracts in the league.

Fair to point out. I think my argument would be Killorn rarely misses time vs Zucker can’t stay healthy. I really do think Zucker is in line for a big rebound season IF he can stay healthy, but that’s a very big if….

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>qc14</b></div><div>how are they extending meier at 8m+ and keeping Jarry next year?</div></div>
Dumo and Meier alone is 10M in space. They’re also likely going to make more moves and the roster will look vastly different than currently constructed. As for Jarry, they have goalies in the pipeline and DeSmith isn’t so far behind him in numbers outside of game load. I’m not sure he’s even their guy. The more concerning future would be Guentzel 2 years from now

100% agree, but the penguins have like 5 other contracts on their roster when Sid leaves that won’t age well either, so that’s a down the road problem. I think this is a win/win for what both teams are looking to do now.

INSTANT Cup Contenders
Pittsburgh declines. I don’t think it’s a terrible idea but they didn’t extend their 35+ year old core to trade pieces away for draft picks back. It’d have to be either Miller or Garland in another kind of trade package to even out.
