Why would we want Six Million Dollar Matt Murray? We can't buy him out (although you can) so he would take up a roster slot and cost us a $4,687,500 cap hit. A third and an over-the-horizon fourth isn't sufficient compensation for that -- Los Angeles just paid a bottom-pairing RhD, an RhD prospect, and a second-round draft pick to get rid of a $5 million cap dump while retaining $2 million on another player.

I get the sentiment completely, but that's what the other teams are going to call "Not my problem". I don't think anyone is going to take on that salary or the extended cap hit with a buyout for next to nothing. Few teams have both the cash and cap space, and none of them are doing it as a favour. If there was a market to unload him using mid-round picks, it probably would have happened by now. They are better off buying him out and eating the relatively small hit.
