Description
Brodie and Pesce are very similar stylistically, and Brodie is a tad bit better defensively, with minimal offensive production. However, Brodie was pretty ass in the playoffs, and a bigger and younger Pesce(also cheaper) mixes the D up. Dumba adds more offence and physical play on a 1-year deal. Toews isn't expected to get a bag, so Leafs get him for under a million with 3 ELITE players at the dot, while also bringing leadership, 2-way presence and a bit of offence. Sammy signs a bridge deal likely in the ball park off what he makes due to arbitration. All in all, Leafs add defence, size, offence, grit, and overall, a harder better team which can be tinkered with good AHL talent and a few picks.

Why would Carolina do this? They'd move Pesce to make room for Karlsson, why are they taking on Brodie? Lafferty and Brodie are cap dumps, A 1st is nice, but a 3rd 3 drafts away ain't helping. Easy decline

I guess gaining yet another 1st and flipping Brodie to SJS would help acquire Karlsson. considering SJS also wants a D-man. If CAR fail to land Karlsson, for safe measures, they have their Pesce replacement with Brodie, both are VERY similar, and taking on a million more helps them gain a 1st and 3rd for future moves.

There really isn't ANY good D-man left out there, with limited draft capital anyway, I guess it's worth the gamble on a 1 year.

This just doesn't make sense for Carolina, this is a pretty useless move and it's a much safer option to keep rental Pesce instead of rental Brodie
