Brutal for Calgary, unless the 3rd trade was you adding in stuff to try and balance it out. In that case it's closer but Flames still decline. Lacks a top end prospect

Reworked it a bit. Idea is it is a three way trade

Seattle loses big time on that trade. Then even if the Leafs gained those Seattle assets, Leafs massively overpay for the two Flames.

I highly doubt they would move Wright for a rental

In this I assume they resign Nylander.

I don't think you'll end up getting Shane Wright but on the off chance you do and Lindholm doesn't want to resign in Calgary. The Flames would gladly accept.

That doesn't change his value from being a 1 year rental

I dont understand your point. If Nylander is resigned that would increase his value in a trade. Am I missing something?

He would be signing a deal if at all after a trade, never before

I see your line of thinking. In this scenario his extension is worked out prior to the signing. Similar to how Debrincat was signed

That doesn't change the trade value though. DeBrincat was traded as an unsigned RFA and then signed a 4 year extension after the trade. Had DeBrincat been signed to an 8 year extension prior to the trade Ottawa would have gotten a much better return like Tkachuk and Dubois since DeBrincat could only sign an 8 year deal with Ottawa this summer. Cats return was more in line with Fiala in terms of value due to this. The ability to exclusively sign a player to an 8 year deal holds a lot of value now when it comes to star players. Toronto does not have that ability with Nylander
