Team: 2023-24 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 8, 2023
Published: Jul. 8, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Sick of hearing about Cat. Would like him on the team, if not, Wings fans have been through it for 7 years, why not 8. Future looks nice with these prospects, even if living with the FA madness Yzerman likes is a brain teaser.

No idea on Veleno. If he re-signs, slot him in for Fabbri. I think another move gets made, but this is right now. Ras is still hurt, at least players have to compete for jobs.

8 years? Probably 10 which sucks for us but we should have a really good team at that point.

2016 was the last playoff appearance, 2013 the last time they had a legit chance to win it all. That is what I meant lol. But yes you are right, probably another 2 years before they look like a threat to make some noise.

Veleno will resign . Yzerman likes him and he is a good 4th line center and getting better. give him a few competent wingers. We don't want Debrincat for assets and long term overpay. He is not the mold Yzerman really wants and he wont overpay. Plus Debrincat plays below average defense -31 this year . especially when Stutzle was only like -3

I am personally pretty torn on wanting Debrincat. On one hand, I get excited when talks seem to heat up and know he makes us a more exciting team during the season. On another hand, I question if he truly helps us win (playoff series) due to size, defence, grittiness question marks. On top of the assets we will have to give up and cap space on top of that. I'm on the side of it that if we can get him for a 1st and Kubalik (no prospects like Berggren or Mazur) and sign him to 5x7, I happily have him. But still would have the same question marks. If the deals aren't that peachy (more likely), then I become more weary on whether it will pay off in the long run.

I think Joey will sign as well. It seems like he is a locker room guy and the fact he, Seider, and Raymond seem like the Breakfast Club helps his case. The WHC stunt still irks me.

Decided I wanted to revisit this with you since it was only yesterday. How do you feel about the trade? It was pretty close in trade value and signing value to what I said I would happily do (not fully expecting it to be as good as I said, as that was like a best case scenario). Throwing in Sebrango and a 4th doesn't change the trade value too much, so can't say I could have expected much better there and Yzerman also didn't sacrifice much cap flexibility in the signing. Overall, I am happy with it, but still remain with the same questions that only time will answer

I am right there with you, pleasantly surprised. Kubalik seemed like a no-brainer based on production/cap/etc. I did think there was going to be a different prospect due to the LHD in OTT’s organization and the downgrade for the Sens in going from Cat to Kuba.

The first does seem like the prize since the Sens can utilize that to acquire an additional asset to bring in more short term giving them some flexibility. If they bring in another decent FA, that also softens the blow.

For the contract, I was really expecting more of a meet in the middle 5-6 year by 8M, but to maximize prime years and get Cat at under that until he is 29 is great. Bottom line is that the guy brings in what Detroit has been lacking, and the Wings still have wiggle room for internal growth and cap to spare for changes. You are right, time will tell, but it’s nice to have a game changing piece that brings some excitement.
