Description
In my opinion, we have three open spots right now. The Avs could fill those with the likes of Foudy or Olausson should they see fit, or continue this offseasons trend of signing guys hoping to make it big in the next FA when the cap goes up.

I bet Cogs has a few more games off this year for "maintenance" days so I would think we definitely need one more fourth liner.

JJ is best served as a seventh defenseman and not playing every night, especially for a team that has high aspirations. So, unless Behrens is truly ready, we definitely need a Foote or Jones on that third pairing.

I could also see Avs giving the third-line RW spot to Kovalenko out of camp, and waiting to see if they need to fill that void later in the season instead of signing Boqvist.

They can't give kovalenko a spot out of camp because he's still under his KHL contract until March 31..

If cogs needs a maintenance day you probably throw in macdermid or hunt.

I like the idea of signing Foote, maybe Maxime comtois over bovquest, bigger body more upside

There's been a little talk of possibly buying out that contract, but you're probably right that wont happen.

I think Hunt they see as an AHL guy who can come up if need be, Macdermid just wasn't the same last year. I could see Ducks or Hawks wanting him as an enforcer and Mac being fine with getting him off the books.

I could for sure see Comtois, I was just thinking of a more skilled guy to bring more out of the bigger/grittier guys like Wood and Colton. I would also rather have a backup plan for a guy who could possibly play top six in case Drouin doesn't work out as planned.

I wouldn't mind either one of Avs signing a couple more guys or giving guys like Foudy/Behrens a shot out of camp. I doubt they are ready for full-time, but it's a possibility, and having younger kids jump in could give a jump to a team who seemed to be a little down on themselves at certain points last year.

Not 100% sure but isn't behrens committed to mcaa this season?
Foudy would be good but not sure which role he's ready for, I assume if drouin sucks they might try oulosson in a top 6 role depending on his camp

Yeh, you're right he most likely is, I forgot about that. Ensuring we have at least eight competent defensemen makes even more sense unless they plan on a Hunt/Macdermid/Johnson rotation as sixth defensemen. I hate that plan personally. Previous injury history with the Avs defenseman would think that would make Macfarland make a move too.

Foudy this year would be like Newhook last year, rotating around the lineup trying to figure out where he fits. I'd rather have that as an injury backup plan, so hopefully, we do see a couple more signings, even if those guys start in the AHL.

In my mind, there’s one spot left to sign and that’s 3RW.

Defense is already jammed up
Toews-Makar
Byram-Manson
J Johnson-Girard
Extras: MacDermid, Hunt (maybe Malinski gets a look?)

Id rather spent the remaining cap on getting a one decent player to play 3RW versus spending half that cap to get a lesser RW option and another D.

The importance of that 3RW signing becomes even more important when you factor in there’s a chance Drouin stinks and immediately someone from line 3 gets bumped into the top 6.

As a side note, Lemieuxs track record probably makes him someone COL wouldn’t be interested in adding to the locker room
