Konecny

Created by: TCMonkey
Team: 2023-24 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 10, 2023
Published: Jul. 10, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The extra $1.5M comes from the Matt Murray buyout. If that DOESN'T happen, we pay a 3rd or a prospect to move Joseph (but I'd rather not).

Pinto takes $2M for one "prove it" year knowing that with the cap going up substantially next season he'll actually make more money signing his bridge deal then.

Pinto has no arb rights, so could probably get him signed for 2-years.

At $2M that would be a crime. I feel one year at an obviously discounted price if enough to ask of the kid.

This is probably still missing a 2nd and then I would accept for TK

The alternative which is probably more likely than anything if a Konencny trade to Ottawa occurs. Is that they first sign the rest of their guys, and go with their current roster more or less. So maybe he gets a little more than 2M. Konencny is then added later in the year when they accrue the cap for adding him. Philadelphia will likely take their time shopping him to maximize the return, so best to wait for several teams to be desperate. Ottawa on the other hand is probably not offering this package at this time (Dorion can't look like he's bleeding assets totry saving face).

Pinto will be arb. eligible just as the cap is up a ton anyways, so he can claw any "discount" back if he really wants as long as he doesn't become a bust.

i think the flyers deal is ok in terms of value, however flyers want a massive overpay to accept a Konecny deal and im not sure this is it. Neither Thompson or Brännström have shown anything at the nhl level at a age where you might expect them to make an impact. and the pick is most likely bostons 1st since its the worse pick between det and bos if im not mistaken.

I would probably take the Ott pick instead of detroit (detroitpick is worth less than ott because of the conditions) but keep some lotteryprotection and/or maybe upgrade the one of the prospect.

I agree going for Konecny later is the smarter play and that there'll likely be some cap space created with injuries.
It would also give Joseph and Brannstrom a chance to make themselves more valuable as trade pieces.

If I were adding a 2nd to the offer I would be removing Brannstrom and trade him somewhere else for a pick or prospect.

Yeah, if that happens and Dorion can get TK for the 1st+Joseph+Brannstrom (more or less), then it would essentially just be like he traded the DeBrincat package for Konencny.

Dude this package is barely enough as is that’s what I’m trying to tell you lol. Lassi is ok and Brannstrom is solid. The 1st will probably be a mid to late 1st due to contingencies. This is barely better than the ADB trade value where OTT had no leverage. Flyers don’t need to trade TK and have already stated they wouldn’t unless something blows them away and this doesn’t blow anyone away

Exactly, he won’t. TK is worth more because the Flyers have all of the leverage unlike with ADB where Detroit had all of the leverage. TK is cheap, has 2 years left, and can be moved anywhere. ADB is almost double AAV, had to sign a new deal, and only wanted a few teams.

This is exactly what I’m trying to say, there is no reason for them to move TK other than something crazy, they have all of the leverage

What I meant was it would be like the 1st+2nd+3rd that they gave up for DeBrincat ended up being traded for Konecny which means it would be a Kubalik+the D prospect+4th or whatever for Joseph+Brannstrom. Obviously, for that to happen Brannstrom would have to do something amazing which would mean they are at a loss still overall technically.

If Joseph and Brannstrom do well enough that they need to add a 2nd or 3rd on top of the Detroit/Boston 1st I think they still end up at a better position than they are at now.

A bit too late to save face, he's been bleeding assets for 7 years

Neither Thompson or Brännström have shown anything at the nhl level at a age where you might expect them to make an impact.

Brannstrom has shown plenty, it's just that some people are not attentive enough/don't know hockey enough. He's not going to be an Erik Karlsson like some overhyped him but he's already a quality NHL player. The most common mistake people do is scouting players with hockeydb.com. However, if you do eye test + advanced stats, it'll give you a much better picture of a player (but yeah, takes longer). Players who are both top percentile for expected goals rates at ES for and against are quality. And he proved that he could take bigger minutes and still look as good if not better.

Thomson is a good OFD RHD prospect but he won't get an opportunity in Ottawa as there's no chance he'll get PP time. Worth a 2nd IMO

ADB is almost double AAV

I agree with the rest of what you said, Flyers are not in a rush to trade Konecny so they can shop for the best deal but what does this mean? Am I missing something? 7.875 vs 5.5 ???
