And peole don’t understand why yzerman hasn’t turned Detroit into a dynasty with 3 cups by now.

Lol, there only two players from this roster still around. Man this was awful. Holland and his " quick retool" left us with no prospect pool and a mostly worthless overpaid roster. It's a miracle we're as good as we are now. And Yzermans draft picks have only played about 200 games and that's all Seider and Raymond.

25 straight years of buying at the TDL is what left us with a decimated prospect pool. Detroit probably could've started the rebuild a couple of seasons earlier but they wanted Mr. Ilitch's last memory of the team to be a good one.

Ehh, I think that's the common narrative but I think that let's Holland off too easy. Also, Tyler Wright was pretty bad at drafting. Just look at 2015. The rebuild should have started no later than 2013. Holland didn't even refer it as a rebuild until 2017. He also made a series of horrible trades, contract signings and roster decisions. Not to mention keeping Babcock around when it was clear free agents were avoiding us because of him. Kenny simply didn't want to be part of a rebuild. Hence his departure.

I would say Holland went 3 for 52 in his last 5 years of drafting. I wouldn't call Ras a total miss but a miss at 9 maybe.
Only hits I considered are Larkin, Hronek and Berggren. That's a pretty bad percentage. I wonder where this team would be if we drafted Samuelsson instead of Veleno or the local boy Robertson over Lindstrom? Obviously it's easy with hindsight but just saying if we hit on one or two more picks.

Personally I think Holland got too close to the players to a point that was detrimental for the team. He was handing out no trade NTCs like they were Pez. In his 21 years as the Wings GM he drafted 46 players that played more than 100 games. Berggern has played 67 games so it's safe to say 47 players that played 100 or more games.

Should have saved it for when Detroit wins the cup under Yzerman. Just to show how far he brought this team from the pile of trash he was handed.
