Because the Wild do not have the cap room, and the Knights just signed Hill to an extension and won't want to pay another goaltender.

The cap room argument is because the Wild assume half their current cap space will go to Gus. This gets the Wild a center and cost controlled goalie through cap hell.

The Knights get under the cap with a good replacement for Karlsson and the potential for one of the top goalie tandems in the league. Or flip Gus for other assets.

VEG says no.... Thompson is a starting goalie, and they have him signed on the cheap (and will most likely back up at that cost with Hill signed). Gus will be looking for about $2M. Karlsson > Hartman. Hartman has had 1 good year riding Kaprisov's coat tails. Karlsson has been fairly consistent, even if his points are down. They can get a better return for him.
