Description
Lou has certainly made the islanders a more relevant in his time here, but the flat cap and bad contracts has hindered their ability to improve the team. Lou may have to find some cheaper solutions.

This only works if Hanifin has some money retained, which isn’t realistic. I added a larger package to Calgary to make it more palatable. I think it’s fair, but I doubt they’d want to retain.

I really like Hanifin as a player and he’s really shown why he was the first defenseman selected in the 2015 draft during his time in Calgary. However, this is not only an egregious overpayment but makes no sense from a fit standpoint. The isles number one need is adding elite talent to their forward core. Hanifin doesn’t fill a significant need and extending him would result in the isles defense being made up of guys in their early to mid thirties for the next decade.

Hanifin is the puck moving LHD we’ve lacked since Ledford left. The powerplay needs a puck moving defenseman badly. Pulock and Dobson aren’t it, and Aho is awful. Hanifin is

Hanifin is the puck moving defenseman this team has missed since Leddy and Toews were traded. The main problem this year was the powerplay, and the biggest issue was not having the Leddy/Toews player. I’d like someone other than Lee to play with Horvat and Barzal, but worst case scenario, we could put Durandeau up there. Not ideal, but the puck moving LHD is number 1.

Hanifin is awful on the PP, he is a good puck mover at 5v5

Aho was one of the isles best defenseman last season…

As an Avs fan who just casually watches other teams, I would MUCH rather have Pulock or Dobson running a PP than Hanifin. He looks fine, but his offensive abilities aren't anything to write home about.
