Why is it that so many people want Karlsson but give nothing for him? It's like Norris Trophy winning defenseman are traded every day with these offers, virtually no value. At this point why not have SJS retain half the cap hit for future considerations.

that's kinda the reality of today's NHL, it's rare for teams to take on this much cap on a player, which is why there's not a lot of value in guys like Pacioretty, Fleury, and Hall. Granted, those teams were cap strapped, but SJ should really retain half and maximize the value they get back for Karlsson, doesn't seem like they're interested in that tho

SJ has very little leverage here that they want to use. The only leverage they have is to not trade him. From what I've heard, EK doesn't want to play for the sharks anymore, so he wants traded. The Sharks don't want to pay him to not play nor have him play poorly or injured and drop in value and he has a NMC that means he can dictate where he wants to go. The object of everyone else offering something for trade is to offer just more than the other higher bidder. If the only choices are Carolina and Pittsburgh, and neither of them are offering much, SJ won't get much for him. This is simple economics: there's no demand, so the price goes down.

Weird that no one wants to trade for a 33 year old injury prone defenseman who just had his first good season in like 5 years (could be a fluke) and is a liability defensively

It’s already been reported that the deal has stalled because nobody (meaning SJ, Pitt, or Caro) is happy with the deal. That means Pitt & Caro aren’t happy with the asking price and SJ isn’t happy with what’s being offered. So, everybody backs away from the table and plays the waiting game. Now it boils down to how badly SJ wants to move him, if at all. They’ve just discovered what the market is for him. They may not like it but they can’t do anything about it except, as noted above, not trade him.
