The caps definitely don’t need anymore bottom 6 players but maybe there’s a bigger trade to be made that moves mantha out to Philly. Definitely would be interested in Tippett if he was available.

1. The less than $700K to buyout Murray in year 1, and $1.5 million in year 2 is far more attractive than moving a 1st. Yes, Murray is a dump, but people thinking they can get a first there is getting old. That buyout is very friendly.

2. Ottawa would have to move some money to make that work. Further, 2 1st's is outrageous. One of them for sure. 2? No. Not for 2 years of Konecny, as good as he is.

3. The Washington deal only works if they can upgrade Mantha..... which in the trade they do not. If this was a pre July 1 deal, it has merit. Now, not at all. They would have to have Tarasenko or Tatar lined up for that to maoe nay sense at all.

It’s less that the caps don’t have enough for him and more that they probably wouldn’t give up enough. I’d do mantha and a top 10 protected first for Tippett but anything more and the caps would probably try to look elsewhere.
