I really like the idea of Comtois, I hate the idea of trading Tanev. Of all the expiring deals he would be the one I would be most comfortable walking to UFA.

I just don't feel like Tanev fits. I basically made that trade as a cap dump for Comtois.

I don't think Seattle is the dance partner for Tanev. Even with trading Fleury that leaves them with 8 d on the roster. Fleury is on a good team friendly contract and I don't think he re-signs as an RFA if he didn't want to be there. Seattle really has no need for Tanev based on contract value.

Zadorov and Hanifin should both be moved before moving on from Tanev this season, we have no idea what Kylington will look like but the best place for him to succeed is on a pairing with Tanev, there isn't another D man responsible enough to make up for Kylington's mistakes. The right side without Tanev is extraordinarily shallow.

Domi and Rodrigues both just signed for $3M per year, Zadina and Hoglander signed at $1.1, he's significantly closer to the latter than he is the $3M deals.
