Reset after another failure

Description
Next summer will be hot for Treliving.

Matthews will not be discounting Toronto, which means it will have to look for reserves inside, as well as cheap veterans willing to take risks in the hope of lifting the cup and making history in the Leafs.

Also, I think Treliving will be able to convince Nylander to stay for another year to sign him to a big contract after Tavares' contract ends.

TWP Stephenson is a good fit for the first line, he can play in the center and from the left, he already has a significant positive experience in the playoffs.

I hope I will also be able to sign small contracts of such veterans as Bonino and Matinez.

Yes, and an important part of this puzzle is a reliable goalkeeper, which I see Gibson, especially since he seems to want a change of scenery. In exchange, we give Samsonov, whom we will apparently re-sign in the summer of 2023

If you think about it... Matthews for 13.2/8 years is a discount considering how much the cap will go up by

he plays on a team without defenders, but if you look at all the G who have played 20 games or more in the league, he is the leader among them in Saves (1,721 S), despite the fact that he had 1,912 shots in 51 games (37.49 AV).

Therefore, no, he is not terrible, but his team is terrible.

yes, he probably makes a small discount, but that's why the contract is for 8 years

He was 8th worst goalie in terms of goals saved above expected, 12th worst in terms of goals saved above expected per 60 (62 goalies played 20+ games). He’s a bad goalie but on that contract, he’s horrible

Georgiev's stats were bad in the Rangers, and in Colorado much better, the same went for Samsonov, after a bad stitstick in the Caps, a significant improvement in Toronto. Therefore, it is not necessary to judge only by statistics

They were both young goalies with room to improve. Sammy was on a one year deal @ $1.8M, Gibson is a veteran on the downside with deteriorating results each year on a massive deal. (Cap & term); totally different situations.

Okay, I'll give you the example of Patrick Roy, when he left Montreal, he was 30 and his statistics were getting worse and worse, but as soon as he came to Colorado, everything changed and I think you know what he was able to give them in the end. That's exactly what I expect from Gibson. Of course, I would like Conor, but he is too expensive for the Leafs

Patrick Roy had won the Stanley cup (conn smythe) twice with Montreal - the team was getting worse, but his personal stats were still good. Exact opposite of Gibson who has won nothing and his stats (personal) are getting worse every year.
