Good luck signing Zegras under 8
Troy Terry could accept that if it’s a 2 year deal… not 3, not 4 and definitely not 7

What has Zegras done to earn an 8M+ contract?

Hughes was 1OA in the same draft, he got an 8x8. Z will AT most get that, probably a bit less.

Jack Hughes signed that contract when 70% of the league called him a bust. They are not the same. Hughes is better but Zegras are way better compared to how good Hughes was in 2021

As much as every other guy getting 8 by 8 contracts after elc. His money will also be inflated by the promise of increased cap in the coming season and that he’s their star player

70% of the league? You mean 70% of fans? There is zero percent chance that New Jersey signed an 8x8 on a hope and a prayer, the KNEW the player he was going to become.

You also realize the difference between Suzuki and Hughes is 2 million, across 8 years? 62 vs 64 million on 8 year deals, we expect Zegrws to fall neatly into that range.

And he's a known hot head who takes dumb penalties, he spent a game and a half in the sin bin this season, one of the highest on the team, which is impressive given that he doesn't fight. That's not a good look in a contract year, and while he may produce like Hughes, he also costs his team by putting them on the PK, unlike Hughes.
