Description

There’ve been a few Garland-for-Joseph-plus-pick trades recently on this site, but what about the value on this one without picks?

The cap exchanged is very close.
OTT gets a top 6 forward and Dman just about ready to break into the league.
VAN gets a younger NHL Dman to continue developing along with a bottom six penalty killing winger.

I personally wouldn’t trade Garland for this return, but I understand what you are trying to do here and I can respect it.

It really depends on what you think Brannstrom can become. He put up pretty decent defensive metrics last year and if he could still develop into a #4 I think it would be worth it.

I agree with you, but I’d try and see if you could trade a less versatile winger than Garland if you have to take back Joseph. I doubt Ottawa would want Boeser though.

Boeser's a good top 6 RW, but the problem is his cap hit. OTT would have trouble fitting it in. They also seem to have more of a need at LW, which Garland can play. I like Garland's game and I kind of hope VAN finds a way to keep and utilize him properly, but improving the center and D spots are a bigger priority.

I’d want a pick thrown in since we’re not saving any cap space here. A 2nd would make me okay with this deal
