Couple young guys knocking on NHL door potentially. Can understand a TDL deal would net more.

Backlund at 5.35M against the cap is not dirt cheap, and Linus Karlsson is nobody to sneeze at

Was not talking about cap hit. Linus Karlsson is not nearly as good a prospect as you make him out to be

I hope he can get a shot in the NHL this year. He had a killer year in SHL (2 years ago) and was very productive in the A last season. He's a natural center and I'd be happy to see the Canucks give him a go in the preseason there. I was hoping they'd give NHL ice time last season but they decided to play the top guys like mad at the end.

Playing the top guys was about creating a meritocracy, which needed to happen sooner or later. Karlsson wasn't NHL ready. You're not reading the situation properly

If playing Sheldon Dries in 60+ games or Lane Pederson, 10+ games doesn't suggest he could get ice time, then you're tripping. Hell, even Lockwood had no business being there besides he can put skates on. They could have given him even 5-6 games at the end to see. That's not asking a lot. He was the top producing forward in Abby.

Don't even go on about not reading it correctly. There more ways to create a winning environment. One of those is giving guys some ice time when deserved...

No, both Pederson and Dries were EASILY more NHL ready than Karlsson. Way to exemplify ignorance at it's finest

FFS

They are top 6 AHLers. If you had any reading comprehension, you'd understand what I wrote.

So is Linus Karlsson, but he's not a finished product the way those other two are. Management is still trying to build value/stock out of Karlsson, gotta handle the asset with more delicacy in that instance

He's nearly 24, he's pretty much done developing offensively. You could argue he's worth a 3rd, definitely not more at this point

How do you know he's done developing offensively? Strange of a Flames fan to track the prospects of a division rival this closely

It's not about knowing every specific prospect it's about knowing how prospects tend to develop. Im not saying he won't make the NHL but I doubt he ends up as much more than a bottom 6er.

Also I track a lot of prospects around the league. For example I would say Karlsson is about on par with Nick Abruzzese on the Marlies.
