Treliving is following the same pattern he did in Calgary.

- He let some good young players go and replaced them with older more expensive pending UFAs he won't be able to extend unless he overpays them in both salary and term.
- He's playing hardball with the team's own best pending free agents (Nylander and Samsonov) by lowballing them in contract negotiations. He'll wind up losing both of them in the end.
- He already has the team in even worse cap trouble than it was in with Dubas.

What will his next big blunder be?

Selling low on Nylander?
Overpaying to extend Matthews short term?
Replacing the goaltender by significantly overpaying in a trade for a 2nd rate pending UFA goalie or bringing in the cheapest backup goalie he can find to be his new starter?

I agree with lots of what you're saying.. Nylander to a gamble and bet on himself and ended up playing better then what his contract is ( at the time of signing last deal he left money on the table) now he wants to get paid as he should.. If Mathews and Marner really want to win then it's them that need to take less money this time around, even if it's for a shorter term.. The core needs to sacrifice a little $ if they really care about winning and not lining their pockets

You're saying nylander is better than Matthews?
