I’d rather JBD or Brannstrom over Thomson personally

Just don’t see the incentive of paying a fourth liner 3 mil for 3 years.

I wouldn’t even move Brannstrom for a 2nd tbh unless we really had to do because it was like the difference in getting a top forward. Otherwise I wouldn’t move him. Maybe you could get JBD as we have Kleven coming in for defence and he could form a good pairing with the offensive Thomson

Yeah I think this move works well for both sides I'd do it as the Canucks

Yeah but it also involves Ottawa paying Garland 4.95 for 3 years

Joseph is also better than a "4th liner". He's a luxury on the 4th line. Just his speed, defensive and PK ability makes him worth more than that

Obviously, cap space is extremely valuable these days. I don't think the difference between Garland and Joseph + the 2.0 AAV x 3 years is worth Thomson + 3rd to be honest.

Based on what forwards have been traded for (Smith for a 3rd for example), I don't think so

Brannstrom would be a no, and JBD is more needed in Ottawa than Thomson who won't have a real opportunity here with all the guys that need PP. That's why he's available (well, we think)

Brannstrom could return a similar young rising 2-way forward. I'd trade him carefully

On the Canucks he’s be a fourth liner which is why I’m calling him a fourth liner. He is a luxury the Canucks really have no space for

Absolutely, but sometimes you have to take back salary to make a trade work. I would keep Joseph as a luxury too if it was possible but based on how Dorion has managed everything, hard to make it possible. Sens currently have like 5 M$ in dead cap

So the only way they could take on Garland is by sending Joseph back the other way. He's the only guy they could move for salary purposes. Everyone else is core or cheap

For the Canucks, it's about their need for Garland vs their need for 2 M$ in cap space

That's why you'll see a team like the Stanley Cup champions trade a guy like Reilly Smith for a 3rd round pick

I agree but 2 mil in cap space for that downgrade doesn’t make a lot of sense. At least Garland at his best is one of the leagues best 5v5 producers. Canucks are not desperate enough for 2 m in cap savings

Agreed, I would keep Garland if I was the Canucks, his salary is not a steal but nothing to cry about. His term is not crippling too

If the Canucks really wanted to move some cap, it should be Boeser and/or Myers

A lot of Canucks fans have been proposing Garland to Ottawa for Joseph and a pick but maybe that wouldn't be the best move
