Petry says no to the trade, his family is in michigan so it would have to be a 3 team trade. Plus i dont think Pitt should give away more first round picks to be middle of the pack anyways especially for an expensive aging defensemen who has been injury prone his whole career

Agreed with you about Petry but not on the second part of your text. Pittsburgh is blocked in all in mode right now and won't be able to do otherwise until the core ( Crosby, Letang, Malkin) is retired. Pittsburgh gm need to capitalize on this guys remaining season so you have maybe an window of 3 to 4 years max to be able to perform and go into series which leave not alot of time and execpt if this is a mega start ready to play, they don't have the time to growth young prospect.

The core of Pitt is to old now I just dont think it could possibly happen. Even with Karlsson I dont think they have a chance at finishing it off with a cup. There issue has been not having enough growth, always needing to get the 5 mil player at the deadline rather than having that 950,000 player producing the same?

No way SJ takes this. Cap dumps and a middling 1st while eating salary.

Sure they can get much better offers, especially if they hold Karlsson.

That's what people forget. Yes right now that contract looks bad, but if everyone is asking SJ to retain, they are competing vs what SJ can get next year with one less season on the contract and a cap that may go up 4-5 million leaving more potential interested teams.

Yeah exactly, they're doomed because of how they have thread the last few deadline the past decade and didn't bring in any prospect to like you have say have the player at league minimum that produces the same.

Sadly they hand are stock into the machine and need to continue the process until the guys is over. They use this tactic, win few cup but see now the failure of the plan and have no choice then to continue on this road.

Dont get me wrong, i would love to see Sid give it another run, but i just cant see this team winning the cup i think they are just simply to old now. If i were gm id be looking to sell house, and never have given letang that deal

Yeah I think the same, Pittsburgh gm (Dubas) should sell the player to other team and acquire something good in return. They may be old but they still valuable.

Adding an Crosby or Malkin or letang to your already ready competitive series team would boost you and bring more experience into the team.

But I got the feeling Dubas is in Pittsburgh because he don't have move is core 4 with Leafs and Mario Lemieux wanted that with Pittsburgh also.

I dont think they could trade Crosby, once a pen always a pen for a guy like him, let him groom the next gen. I wouldve traded malkin 2 years ago, same with letang
