Outside Looking in Come Deadline

Created by: Goorts

Description
I am exploring the idea on what the roster may look like come deadline time if Nashville is on the outside of the playoff hunt, and we are sellers.

What teams I have buying really are total guesses, but I am just trying to explore what players could likely be moved out, with a semblance of an idea on their return, and then which young guys get called up to fill the void.

Thoughts?
Trades
1.
NSH
  1. 2024 2nd round pick (OTT)
Additional Details:
With Boston likely taking a step back, this could be prime time for Ottawa to make a push to make in the playoffs.
2.
NSH
  1. Timmins, Conor
  2. 2024 4th round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Just feels like a Leaf's trade in my eyes.
3.
NSH
  1. Poulin, Samuel
  2. 2024 1st round pick (PIT)
PIT
  1. Novak, Thomas
Additional Details:
Novak continues his breakout from last year, will be due a big pay raise, and with a cap hit of only $800,000... teams will be lining up to get him. A 1st and a prospect seems reasonable to me.
4.
NSH
  1. 2025 3rd round pick (EDM)
EDM
  1. Gurianov, Denis
Additional Details:
Cheap depth scoring option for Edmonton. A 3rd seems reasonable.

Toronto currently sits 12M over the cap, and this trade involves them taking on more.

Doesn't really make much sense.

Edit: couple people have mentioned it, I didn't read the notes. Moving on.

I see you have Schaefer on the roster. Do you think there's a possibility he makes the NHL club this year? I figured him to be more of a long-term project.

This is late July and he's projecting deadline trades. What does their current cap situation have to do with anything?

It's a deadline trade. They could have banked some LTIR cap space by then, made other minor moves, etc.

That being said, it's the return I like least for NSH of these. I'd rather get another pick or a B prospect instead of Timmins.

Fair enough, would have helped if I read the notes.

Even still, TOR can't accrue cap space with Muzzin on LTIR, so enough people would have to be injured at the time and added to LTIR in order to add more cap. Doesn't seem likely at this point.

Oilers got bjugstad at 50% retained for a 3rd round pick I don’t think the oilers do this if they do it’s gonna be 5th round pick at most in my opinion

Novak would definitely have to be performing well again this season. He had everything go right last season. He's also an extremely late bloomer which might mean his best is yet to come, or last season is a complete anomaly.

It could potentially be Egor Afanasyev over Schaefer... I guess it would come down to who was producing better in the AHL.

I figured the 3rd because his cap is still only $850,000... and that should be digestible for any team come trade deadline. We could split the difference and say forth.

It could come down to last season being the anomaly, and he is a 30-40pt per season player period. Being this is likely his first and only real payday, I'm sure he is going to be motivated to put up numbers which would justify him being worth the 1st.

I could honestly see it that Nashville's season results will be 100% reflective on how Novak does. If Novak continues his breakout, Nashville could be in contention. If he regresses, then so does the team as a whole. Time will tell I guess.
