Horrible trade for the Leafs and still an impractical 20 man roster.

You have to think all teams caps and needs.
Nylander is the superior player at 7m X 1 year. But the Leafs need cap. So a trade straight up for 4.1m X 1 Pesce might be fair
Terovainen at 5.4m X 1 year might be a fair contract but geez you can UFA at that price without giving 1.4m Liljigren (and three years of control) two picks and good forward prospect in Minten.

Just looking at the 23/24 season, are the Leafs (or Canes) better with Pesce/Terovainen swap of Liljegren/Nylander. Cap is about the same...maybe even on ice value. But Leafs give up term in Liljegren and by your trade the Leafs give up two picks and Minten.

This isn't my trade. Nylander would be the only target on Toronto from a Canes perspective.
