Salary Cap Mode: Basic

Description

Signing Thornton to compete for a cup. Over pay on short term to "entice" him to come to Winnipeg while not screwing up the CAP and the ability to sign the young RFA's in 1-2 years.
Enstrom, Stuart, Mathias come off the books in 18/19 freeing 10.5M combined with the 6.5M current space to sign Ehlers, Trouba, Morrisey to extensions. Assuming Ehlers gets 6M, Trouba 7.5M, Morrisey 4M, that takes up 13M of the available 17M in 18/19. Assume Little is re-signed at the same CAP hit and doesn't take a discount.
Myers and Thornton off the books next year freeing 13.5M added to the 4M prior totaling 17.5Mto sign Laine, Connor, Roslovic. Moves would then either be to re-sign Thronton cheap (doubtful unless we're close to the Cup), don't re-sign Wheeler (can't see that), or trade Perrault (most likely scenario) but again, lots of CAP space to sign the guys needed and if the 2 years of Thronton being here go like the roster below should have...a CUP shouldn't be far off and playoff success past the 1st round at least should be expected.

San Jose to the Peg... Not sure $8M is enough for that kind of weather/culture change. I do agree he is exactly what the Jets need in terms of veteran leadership though.

If WPG were serious enough to pay a record salary in the franchise, would they also buy a goalie?

Love it - agree that the Jet's aren't deep enough at centre.

However, you likely won't be able to afford Thornton in the 2nd year at $8M

Little will get more than he gets now. Wheeler is also a top 5 winger in the league so losing wheeler for little is bad business. Oh and Laine is likely a 9mil dollar player on his next deal. The money doesn't work.
