It’s not the worst thought, however I’m curious on the cap. It may not work for either the Canes or Leafs. The know the Canes have some flexibility with waiver exempt players.

Canes don't have the RD depth for thisan Toronto needs to be the team paying for retention, not Carolina. Meaning it needs to be a Toronto 2nd... oh wait.
