First as a Canucks fan not sure why you're doing a Pens to SJS for EK65 trade scenario....... however:
A) Only one of Granlund and Petry will go to SJS the othr in the case of Petry goes to 3rd team in case of Granlund gets bought out this weekend.
B) Yager isn't a prospect that is being traded in that deal instead Poulin, Ty Smith, and any goalie prospect will likely be dealt based on the rumblings from Pittsburgh side as to what Dubas is willing to part with.
C) The only part I think that is right in this is the draft picks going to SJS and retention value on EK65.
D) only player Pens get back is EK65

If they're able to get EK and Guenztel only misses like 5ish games(what's currently expected) they'll still be solidly in the WC mix. If they don't get EK and Guentzel has a setback then yeah - they'll be in trouble

Doubt they have any chance at the top two spots in the Metro. They could be anywhere from 3-7 in the Metro and it wouldn't surprise me. Depends heavily on injuries and goaltending like 20+ teams in the league. Only the top contenders or rebuilders will be easy to predict.

Them saying he will be re-evaluated in 12 weeks instead of the estimated recovery is 12 weeks concerns me. I worry it might be longer

I wasn't sure if that was unusual phrasing or not. 12 weeks seems to be a pretty standard recovery time for ankle surgery - but he'll probably need some extra time to get into get into skating shape. So will most likely be a little longer you're right. Probably impossible for them to know if it will be even longer until those 12 weeks are up and that's why they phrased it that way.

Yeah I was thinking maybe 12 weeks recovery then re-evalute to see if he can begin skating. Who knows though for sure though. Just is concerning because ankle is one of the tougher injuries to recover from for skating. Whatever happens though definitely not good news for a team that has awful depth scoring. Can't really handle any injuries all season given the depth. If we don't pull the trigger on Karlsson this weekend will be feeling pretty bad about this upcoming season.

Yeah I kind of forgot about getting back into playing shape. So best case scenario maybe like 14 weeks - 12 to re-evaluate and then a couple for skating on it. And yeah for a sport like hockey that's definitely a brutal one to have.

Oh it's terrible for sure. So much rides on the health and performance of the top 6. I'll be feeling bad as well. But hey I've felt pretty good about the teams the past few years and they did nothing so maybe this will be the opposite haha

I'm just hoping for Karlsson this weekend then someone like Vrana during the season or TDL. I'm seeing a lot of people debating Johansson O'Connor and others playing in the top 6. haha Not saying they're bad ideas (I think they could do well there), but man that's when you know the depth is bad.

Why would Army trade Vrana? He's found money. Detroit is paying half his contract. He'll likely score 30-35 goals this season. Are the Pens much better than the Blues? Either team could be buyers or sellers at the trade deadline.

If we don't get Karlsson we will be sellers. If we get him I think we're a step above the Blues, if not then we might be worse. As is I don't think either have a chance at the cup.
