I can't see retaining on Petry at the trade deadline if they're already retaining 3.5 mil AAV on EK65 for the next 4 years.

Good deal for san jose, but seems like a lot for PIT to give up even though Karlsson is as good as he is. I think with his cap hit, his value is probably a little diminished, maybe remove one of the 1st’s and it is more fair.

Supposedly Petry is already the holdup on a Erik Karlsson deal to Pittsburgh. He won't waive for San Jose period. He only wants to play in the Eastern Conference and most of them are capped out.

What's the source on that? I've heard Seravelli and Friedman report the ask by Grier is higher than any team is willing to give. Nothing about Petry being an impediment to a deal.

I'm not sure that a 3rd team would retain $1.75 on EK for 4 years in exchange for Petry at 50٪ and a 1st.

Simpler to have Pitt trade Petry to another team for a 1st, and give just one 1st to SJ. Perhaps ask SJ to retain more.

I've listened to both Seravelli and Friedman. Neither ever said Petry was the hold up. They recognized a potential complication with it, but both said fundamentally the trade package requirements are higher than any team will offer.
