Wild 24-25 William Nylander

Created by: vbolshakov
Team: 2024-25 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 5, 2023
Published: Aug. 5, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
- Zuccarello shows loyalty to a Minnesota and signs 2MM contract with 3MM performance bonus (35+)
- Rossi - biggest risk as a 2nd line center. Khusnutdinov is a potencial backup option (also risky)
- Nylander - will be given 1st line in a contender team with opening window (for the next 4 seasons). Minnesota will offer 10MM without any problem.
- Foligno really wants to stay. He will accept 1.5MM
- Khusnutdinov will come from KHL ready to play in NHL.
- Addison - I assume Bill Guerin has signed him at or below 2x2MM
- Lambos, Spacek - time to start in NHL

No thanks on Zuccarello and Foligno - both need to be put out to pasture!

I'm a Leaf fan and Nylander has been excellent value in the past few years. But even in a rising cap, I wouldn't pay him 10m and certainly not for seven years ....though some team might.

Few players resign "out of loyalty". More like they haven't received better offers.

I agree with all your points. Worst case Wild with replace Zuccarello and Foligno with UFA market options.

Nylander is a risk with 10MM but I think Minnesota needs a player like him to show to Kaprisov that management makes the team stronger. Nylander will have a bigger role with Wild and will show results. I am more worried about central line that is not solid at all.

Whilst I’m a big Zuccarello fans since his early Shl days in Modo I think it’s time to let him go. His replacement can come from within in form of Gaudreau. Regarding the top 6 i think it’s better to keep the MoJo-JEE-Boldy line and let Rossi flourish next to Kaprisov and Nylander. That line combinations will make the middle 6 challenge for best in the league defensively and create opportunity for the top line to focus on what they know best, offense.

Regarding the defense I think it’s best to stick to the current pairings. Faber next to Brodin and Middleton next to Spurgeon. I’m uncertain if Lambos is ready but bottom pairing minutes could suit him perfectly.

I’m with you completely! Nylander will fit Minnesota like a glove and finally bring Kaprisov some much needed help offensively.

That conversation we had about resigning Zuccarello if it's cheap and short enough? This is about what it would take for it to make sense to me, assuming no one takes his spot this coming year. I'd keep Foligno if he has a good year, I wouldn't extend him until the team is done for the year and you're 100% sure what he has left. If he's anything like last year, let him walk.

I like Nylander and would love to see him play for the Wild, but I'm not sure how smart it would be to throw $10m at a winger right now when the team still needs a 1c (which will cost money if they land one) and needs to be able to throw money at Kaprizov soon enough.

I agree but I don't see 1C options in a market as good as 1RW (Nylander). Lindholm is the only realistic one but he will ask 7x8MM. Nylander for 10MM makes more sense than Lindholm for 8MM.

It would be better to take the 1c in a 3-way trade in summer 2025 to preserve some cap space. Minnesota has enough prospects and picks to offer. Since Tampa will close their champions window in two years and transform into another Pittsburgh, Brayden Point will be the best 1c option.

Also, let's give a chance to Rossi and Khusnutdinov.

For sure, but even if one of them or another prospect develops you'll need cap to pay them if they're a legit 1C. Maybe the cap goes up enough in the next 2 seasons along with most of the Suter/Parise buyouts falling off the books giving them enough money to sign a legit 1c to the contract they'll need. Then $10m for Nylander might not be so difficult to work in.

Not interested in adding an expensive wing when there is glaring holes at center. Wings are much easier to get.

I’m 100% out on resigning Zucc, but if Foligno’s crappy play last year was because of injuries and he bounces back this year, I would definitely be interested in resigning him…but not at $3.1 mil again.
