Dont need Karlsson heres what we do need

Created by: MajesticWalrus
Team: 2023-24 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 5, 2023
Published: Aug. 5, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Let defense defend and forwards be the one to worry about offense instead. Don't need Karlsson for this reason, can get another scoring forward though. Our defense needs to be better defensively. Hasn't been good all around defensively in a while. One strong offensive two way defender in Letang is good enough and Letang is much cheaper.

I also wouldn't want Jarry for cap reasons especially when Ned and DeSmith are two capable goalies, inconsistent at times but that's fine. Jarry is just as inconsistent. But I'll leave Jarry on this roster for sake of realism that they don't trade someone they mistakenly committed to big time.

Trades
1.
PIT
  1. Stecher, Troy
  2. 2024 3rd round pick (EDM)
  3. 2024 5th round pick (ARI)
Additional Details:
Arizona has 13 picks in 2024 so losing a couple won't matter and mid round ones at that and they still get youth out of this trade. Smith gets to be free of Sullivan. Pens get a reliable defender.
2.
PIT
  1. Larsson, Jacob
  2. 2024 4th round pick (TBL)
Additional Details:
This trade involves two defenders who haven't received enough ice time to live up to their draft expectations. However, pens do this to receive a reliable defender instead of a more offensive minded one. Change of scenery could benefit both. Worth noting that joseph has been more successful in attaining a more regular roster spot in which a compensation pick is taken as a result.
3.
PIT
  1. Marchessault, Jonathan
Additional Details:
Pending UFA and Vegas might look to clear cap for roster retention of their youth. There has been rumours of Martinez moving for the same reason.
VGK
  1. Butcher, Will
  2. Nylander, Alexander
  3. Puustinen, Valtteri
  4. 2025 2nd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Let's be honest Butcher is just Smith 2.0. Sullivan won't play him or won't play him much. Plus he's more offensive minded too anyway. Change of scenery for him too.

Why does ARZ want Petry & Carter?
You’re gonna have to give them *significant incentive to take them

More importantly, why will Carter & Petry waive to go there?
There’s NO way dude

Well they can go anywhere they like. Money well spent elsewhere with that amount of cap combined which a competing team might not want or have. Won't be that hard to get rid of them when they still do some things right and carter alone isn't overly expesnive. The whole purpose of his trade is to signify getting Stecher.

The VGK trade is pretty bad too
They’re still trying to win, not gonna ship out Marchessault
And your reasoning doesn’t make much sense either
If he’s a pending UFA, they don’t need to trade him NOW to clear space for NEXT YEAR

And before u say something like, “they’ll wanna get value for him instead of letting him walk”
The key word there is VALUE, and u aren’t giving them ANY at all

Pending ufas arent worth much and vegas has always had plenty of depth to not have to worry about losing him in the playoffs or not

Lol
Both those guys will be VERY hard to get rid of
You’re gonna have to find a team that actually WANTS them,
which will be very few (if any)
And then you’ll need Petry & Carter to WANT to go to that team

It’s a highly unlikely scenario

You’re giving them scraps for a player who is VERY useful to them
It’s not happening- NO chance

I'll just chime in to say I don't see the Sens doing this.

First, our left side is already overcrowded. Chabot, Sanderson, Chychrun, Brannstrom. Chychrun is likely going to be playing RD because of the jam at LD. Kleven is our top LD prospect that the GM and coach are high on (big, physical player). So, I don't see how POJ gets playing time in Ottawa. Sure, there always injuries, but we got some depth to get us through. Players that don't need waivers. Sens currently have 7 players signed to NHL deals, and also have Lassi Thompson will need waivers. No room on the main club to carry extra D.

Then there's also the issue of his brother. GMPD likes to bring in players that already have connections on the roster, but considering MJ might be traded for cap space, bringing in his brother probably not gonna happen

Jeff Carter already said that hr's not uprooting his family again, And Petry won't waive for Arizona. Thinking either one would waive for that joke of an organization is purely laugh

And once they put Martinez on LTIR or dump him,
they won’t need to do that with Marchessault

Smith was dumped for Cap reasons
Why would VGK dump Marchessault if they don’t have to??

Easier to replace forwards than defense. Stephenson will warrant a big pay raise. Maybe Aho money when aho just scored 67 in 75 and stephenson got 65 in 81. Aho's career high 53 assists is similar to stephenson at 49. Both good defensively. 12 points over 15 games in the playoffs for aho while stephenson had 20 pts over 22 playoff games. Stephenson could ask for around 8 million too. Which would require both marcehssault and martinez to go.

Well buyouts can happen so he might have to whether he likes it or not. Management is in charge not him. Same goes for petry. They'll be stuck retiring if theyre that stubborn a better contract or change of scenery can reinvigorate their careers on a bad team with more play time. And if that happens they can be a rental for a competing team so not like they would stick with a joke organization.

Yes, they might move Marchessault at some point this season so they don’t lose him for nothing NEXT year

That doesn’t mean they’re gonna do it NOW
They likely wait till the deadline, where they can get more then the pile of blah that you’re offering

If ARZ would take them NOW,
then they’d be just as interested in them as free agents

And PIT isn’t buying them out anyways

Larsson spends most of his time in the AHL, where he earns 350K. And he doesn't require the Sens giving up a 4th rd to acquire.

Want to trade POJ for Larsson straight up? Assuming the Sens don't get rid of Joseph, they might do that. But I don't see them trading draft capital to acquire an AHL player, which is what POJ would be on the Sens.

You're more likely to get more interest from another team that doesn't have a logjam at LD.
